The price is around 10k-15k, but it's not so bad when you compare it to the prices that business travelers pay for the same trip (or even domestic trips) on standard jets [most people just aren't very aware of how much more business travelers typically have to pay].

Expedia has fairs taking off tomorrow for 1400 for coach, 2800 for business, and 8200 for first class. I've never been on the Concorde, but from pictures it appears to be similar to business class maybe? I see a big difference between 2800 and 10-15k. Even if it's first class, there is still a significant difference, even more so if its closer to 15,000.

I just picked up the 8-1 touch screen remote at Radio Shack 2 days ago. MSRP was originally 99.99 but they are currently on clearance for 29.99. It's definitely no pronto, but I have been very happy with it so far. It had built in codes for 4 of my 5 devices (DVD is an off brand) with full functionality that I've found so far. The remote is learning, so the DVD will be programmed as soon as I get the time. The only thing that I have a gripe about is that there is no "feel" of the buttons...but that is the result of a smooth touch screen.

The CIA World Fact book entry for Iraq shows their Infant Mortality Rate at 57.61/1000 births. There were also quite a few other countries that had a higer rate then Iraq going from either list. You can't necessarily form a conclusive cause-and-effect because of the embargo.

Also, your math is flawed because you are assuming that an additional 65 infants died per 1000 births each year of the embargo. Without the figures for each year, this is an invalid assumtion. There could have been 40 deaths/1000 for each year between 90-94. Not likely but you can't just assuming that it was 105 for every year not shown.

Each item was missing either a manual or a remote. You can usually negotiate a better price. In the case of the TV, it was missing the remote. I asked for a lower price since just about all the advanced features required the remote. They dropped it a further $150 (down $200 total now). I then said that they had a deal if they threw in a ESP. They did so I saved $200 + the cost of the ESP on a $750 TV. BTW, the ESP covered lost remotes so I just ordered a new one. I had it in my hands a week later.

The same thing worked on the receiver. I asked for the ESP to be included and they happily did. I've yet to use it, but I still have it and it didn't cost me anything extra.

In addition, CNN had a very good summary of all the different weapons/forces from both sides.

A couple things that I learned: Iraq has 3 main models of tanks, T-72, T-62, and T-55. While I can only guess what the numbers represent, they do correspond to the decade that they were first built. The T-72 is a 30 year old tank design. Most of their tanks have gone through several wars and are only running buy scavanging other tanks for parts.

My brother just a few weeks ago finished his AIT for repair on track vehicles. He said that the some of the shells that the Abrams fire will penetrate a tank shoot through the tank, and exit out the otherside. It does this with so much force that just about anything not solid (i.e. human bodies) are usually sucked out of the small exit hole. Also, I read somewhere that the Abrams can/will shoot through sand dunes and still inflict serious damage to a tank. I also remember seeing once on TLC or Discovery Channel that the Abrams can track either 8 or 16 different targets at a time and fire accurately at 40 mph over bumpy terrain.

I'm not sure if you should take this all as religion, but it just sounded interesting.

As oppose to keeping their tanks in relatively confined close quarters of a city? Tanks are not real effective in confined spaces.

Iraq is also at a serious disadvantage with the age of their tank fleet. They have nothing of recent design. Their newest tank is a Soviet designed T-72, first built in 1975. Their other two tank models, the T-62 & T-65 was from the 60s and 50s respectively. Most of their tanks that they do have a are seriously aging rust buckets that have been through two wars already. I seriously think that they are of very little concern when compaired to our Abrams.

Are you confusing conductive with inductive? Inductive is using EMF to transfer the power. I'm starting to see more and more things use inductive recharging systems. I've had a razor that used it as well as many electric cars use it I believe.
