Its also a good way to get drunk for free. If you walk into a hospital emergency room, proclaim to the nurse "I drank some wood alcohol", you're in for a ride.

While being transported to the nearest detox center by ambulance, you will be constantly fed grain alcohol to avoid the wood alcohol from being absorbed.

I know if I do it from my place, I get a free ride to toronto (a good solid 2 hours) and all the booze I can drink for those 2 hours. Strangely, I have yet to do it.

    Oh, a keyboard, how quaint.
We solved this problem with voice recognition software some years ago. The trouble is, we can't tell if the person is addressing the computer, or is simply talking about a computer. For example:

"Computer run a level 3 diagnostic on the transporter assembly" ...would trigger the computer to run a level 3 diagnostic on the transporter assembly.

    or

"Damn machines, I did not tell my computer to self destruct." ...would trigger the computer to initiate the self-destruct mechanism. Kaboom.

Hopefully this problem will be fixed before Zefram Cochrane takes off in a few years.

When slashbots say "Code to Standards!" they really mean "Code to Standards that Mozilla supports." (Some of us can recall when CSS was unpopular in this crowd because it was "IE-only".) Anyway, it's perfectly possible to build a "standards-compliant" site that doesn't show a pixel in Mozilla.

I concur entirely. I wrote a website that rendered well in IE, and even passed the W3C validator. When complaints arose over poor rendering in Moz, I had to go out of my way to haxor the code so that it would render in Moz. When it rendered fine in Moz, IE rendering was haxored apart.

Long story short, I spent 4 hours tweaking the site to a happy medium between IE and Moz, while still maintaining W3C Compliance.

Actually, the reason Ottawa is the capital is namely because the Queen (at the time) said so. Ottawa was chosen by the Queen for 3 reasons:

    • Its right between Toronto and Montreal, and right on the Ontario/Quebec border. No hard feelings since its neither in Toronto or Montreal.
    • Ottawa had a booming lumber industry - at least at the time.
    • Its pretty far up north. They figured if the americans were to invade, they would get lost in the woods on the way up. * **

    * Its a 6 hour train ride from Toronto - a fair distance by foot. Since the decision was made before automobiles were the de facto mode of transport and horses/on foot was pretty standard, getting to Ottawa would take a damn long time.

** Funny. 100 years ago we assumed the americans were dumb. Seems little changes over 100 years.
