    True, even dating back to the Windows 95 beta. The '95 beta would expire if your BIOS clock year was 1996 or greater.

    Simple solution: Come expiry time, roll your clock back.

    A door with a lock.

    A toddler cannot reach the knob, thus making it a quite effective defense. Even if they can somehow reach the knob, their small hands will likely not have the dexterity to manipulate the knob.

    Once they get to about age 2 or 3, its probably time to let them use the computer. If you want to use the computer in private, lock the door.

    Quite simple. Write a story that puts a computer programmer in the context of a hero, fixing evil buffer overflow errors, patching the gaping security hole that lead to the hacker's domain, saving millions of packets by setting up a more efficient routing solution, etc.

    Perhaps when she gets of age, get her a computer and c++ compiler, so she can do what you do!

    Actually, Half-Life is still Quake 1 at heart. If you've flipped through the source code in the SDK, you'll see alot of things that still relate it to Quake 1:

    Thats the standard comment header in most if not all SDK files.

    Though it has been reengineered over the years, its BSP files are still almost Quake 1 compatible, its SPR files can be recompiled in Quake 1 compilers, and many other things.

    wtf are you on? More than 50% of people use Half-Life's OpenGL renderer over its D3D or Software renderers. Namely due to its better performance on most cards, and that the D3D Renderer is unstable and causes crashes in some instances.

    Wood Alcohol actually is Methanol (CH3OH), while Grain Alcohol is Ethanol (C2H5OH). When Ingested, Methanol causes damage to optic nerves, usually blindness results.

    If I were in your situation, I would come up with a solution by scratch. My solution would look like:

    Web-based interface built upon ASP or PHP, using an SQL backend of some kind. Interface allows viewing, modifying, and saving records. Use HTTPS and MD5 hashed passwords for security, or something.

    Ability to download files for offline viewing/editing - files would likely be in XML format or similar.

    Small home-built GUI app for viewing/editing offline files. Allows ability to interface with web-database and upload/download updates to files.

    Easter Egg. Include a small "Punch that annoying office paperclip" game when the user presses CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+1337
