Can something be done to have the lowered? I find it ridiculuos to have 20MB+ gone when @ about:blank. Are there some tips and tricks to manage this? RAM isn't such a big issue nowadays but such a resource drain should be better justified.
It is great you put an effor into this paper. But don't spread misinformation. The JVM has an assembly-like language at its lowest level. Every compiled Java program gets down to the corresponding bytecode for each and every instruction. It doesn't matter which language it came from. And there is JPython and probably lots more languages than can be compiled to JVM bytecode.
.NET, in my opinion, will make all languages the same. WinForms+type restriction+who knows what else will make them all one and only language with different syntactic sugar here and there. Not bad actually, I just don't like VB. Probably it will get the job done for some though.
Is it me or the site is crashing every time with:
"Exception in article: ns9999184 : org.xml.sax.SAXException: FWK005 parse may not be called while parsing." ?
Somebody is not processing exceptions the right way..
Could it be just that all these numbers are what makes the system stable, balanced. As we know, everything in nature tends to seek that state. The universe had plenty of time to find it out. We may be just seeing the end result and judging by only what we currently see...
I thought there was something called freedom of speech but obviously only you are free to express your thoughts and they are always right. I said something three times in a row but three times in a row you do not get it.
Nobody is forced to do anything. If the employer does not respect employees - they are free to leave. If you are good enough - you would not have problems finding a (good) job.
I would like to avoid personal remarks but it does not make you smart if you do not even try to see things from different perspectives.
I don't think there is much of an audience to an anonymous poster but anyway - I am not a shill. I'm just the living proof for the superiority of the anonymity. At least I can spell your name correctly..
You constantly miss the point and use partial quotes to skew what the meaning was. Which was, for everyone who missed it - you: getting a degree means nothing (in this particular field). There is much more to it. I start to think you don't know what it is or you just don't have it..
Back to the ballgame: let's extend the metaphor: the short basketball player will do (some) work on the floor but she/he is handicapped thus her/his team is handicapped. That player won't grow much more, it's just too late and that's part of life. There are second chances but now ones says they must be as good as the first ones.
Again, getting afraid of being misquoted, people should not be judged by their age or whatever you would like to find to differentiate them. It comes down to being able to do the right job, having the skills and the drive.
I don't get it why you are so stubborn? What is it? You are over 40 and missed the train or something ?
P.S.
And yes - the reason is objective (with or without the italics and the exclamation marks) - because there are people for everything. You can't just decide one morning that you are dead bored being truck driver - from now on you are going to be a rocket scientist. You go buy a book and start building a spaceship out of your truck. May be in the movies it can happen but not in real life.
your case obviously is not related to the skills and qualifications of an individual. you see only what you want to see. i just wanted to note the possibility that certain jobs are very hard to get into and there are objective reasons to this. it is sad when someone is unable to raise above his personal opinion and is ready to interpret whatever is told to her/him the most suitable way to her/his views. what my intend is that the employee should be able to do the job, learn on the job and have a little passion about the job. all you see, mr. coward, is digits.. why is that, i wonder..
Mr. Anonymous, although your last question was not directed at me I felt compelled to give my version of an answer. So: there are exceptions but generally you need specific way of thinking to be good at this job. A way of thinking that does not come with getting a degree but with long hours in front of a computer doing what you like to do. That is what makes it very unlikely your recently graduated middle-aged man to be suitable for hiring. I mean, I would like to be a basketball player but I am too short - isn't that 'unfair' discrimination ?? Actually the last question is what the essence of my answer is.
On the contrary - I think the salaries are too low. You should know better how much time, effort and persistence takes to keep up-to-date, let alone to gain in-depth knowledge and experience. And there are sacrifices you must make if you would like to be at the top of your field (well, it is like that in every field). But even your average so called IT-specialist deserves much more for her work.. Look at the pro-football and basketball players. What they get is not what they deserve. But in the market economies marketability is what that matters. So coming back to the point - salaries are based on what the employers are ready to pay. Let's make them appreciate us more;).
Specifically to the applets: the problem is the crappy implementation of the vm in netscape (they even could not write it themselves) and the distorted one in ie. browser vendors are at fault for not following the spec. imagine what would happen if not macromedia but someone else provides flash implementations for their browser/platform.. the applets could have been quite successfull but ms (with considerable help from netscape) killed them off. yet, I still have a swing applet running in netscape and ie using rmi. but it is jdk1.1 tied and pretty much at dead end.
What's the point of a "bold new concept" if it is not known to whom it may concern? Really, the point is these innovations to be made known and accessible to the general public. and also educate this general public what the pros and cons are. i always thought that fan-like and prejudiced judgements don't really help.
Ok, doctor lawyer.
simply put, my point is: why not visa expirees be returned home (after six years probably they are higher paid, some may got into management - joking of course) and replace them with fresh blood, hungry just to be over there and ready to accept much lower wages (than the expirees). that is my concern - people be given fair chance based on their abilitity and contribution.
by "in their place" - i do mean its theirs. they've earned it and most have overcome third world birthplaces, educated themselves, worked for much less than the locals.
by "oldies" - i mean the h1b visa expirees, that's what the quotations are for.
yep, there are multiple directions for lowering down things, e.g. lower youself down as a human.
and cutting costs is a big part of what this temporary workers are for. and this is not mcdonalds workforce. most of them are quite highly qualified and it is only to benefit to allow them staying in your country (of immigrants...). well, a reason is to increase the gene pool for example..
although i did not meant changing the rules you did conclude that either way - people get hurt, mister doctor professor lawyer economist..
btw, i do not hold h1b visa but do not think using people in such a way is the right direction.. it could be the wrong direction for keeping your economy booming, amongst others.
yeah, mister hawk. or may be you should have been eagle, for this eagle-eyed view of yours. they got what they bargained for, absolutely. and why not import younger, lower paid workers in their place. kick out the "oldies" and get "greenhorns" to improve the bottom line. that's what every real american business should do - lower down the costs. who cares for the people, they are not americans - do they even qualify as people ? one day you could be on the other side. watch it as you are flying higher and higher forgetting the roots of it all (a joker: humans are the most important). you may get yourself shot down or actually shooting at yourself.
There is a browser "market" !?
Really ?
Few years from now, when the big become bigger there will be IBM Linux left competing and few years past that - only Microsoft Internet.
Amin.
Name it ZBox than.
is this guy a smowhat dilluted ?
everybody is free to use whatever she/he likes.
I did pay for my RAM. Just expecting it would be efficiently utilised. And you paid for your PC - why don't install DOS - it would put it to use too.
