it's a microkernel, why not just drop aqua onto whatever kernel they feel like? If it's not a gpl or other open licensed kernel, there's no requirement to publish code, and Apple still retains the right to call it OSX. Unless I am missing something, It's always been called OSX running on BSD, I'm assuming this means the look and feel of the GUI, the window manager, the kernel, and several other things are what make up an operating system. In the case of a kernel swap it might not be UNIX or BSD any longer, but won't it still be OSX?

  4. I think the problem... on Social Network Fatigue Coming? · · Score: 1

here is that there's too much overlap in social networking sites, everyone is trying to do the same thing the other guys is doing, only better. At that point, there's no reason to offer interoperability because it offers nothing to pare down the sameness of each site. I think what social networking sites need to do first is offer some type of differntiation amongst themselves, more than a simple "myspace on cingular" or "friendster mobile email". Only when each site is unique will there be reason for interoperability.

You don't want to think about a new pair of sneakers or getting a sandwich. You bought the game to play it, not to solicit advertising for upgrades to your lifestyle.

the hell knows? They won't say, and the public isn't likely to find out the truth. In reality, most rev1 products have problems, and laptops take a hell of a rough beating, especially compared to stationary computers. Does Apple have more problems than any other OEM? Not likely, considering Apple contracts the manufacturing of their products to the same people that make everyone else's products also. If Apple were experiencing massive quality control problems, we would see it across the channel, not just at one company and one product line. And please, it's not as if Intel hardware is especially fragile compared to ppc hardware, so far as I know "Intel Inside" was never meant to be a marketing slogan for "fragile"
