The Android vs. iOS battle has churned out a breed of jack-off fanboys on both sides that are more annoying than any OS-mongers in the past. I hardly visit Mac forums I used to go to because it's nothing but a dick-measuring contest between the two sides in places where it's not even relevant.
Am I the only one that caught the fact that Apple is just had YET ANOTHER record quarter?
The fact that Android—which is available on more networks and being built in more price ranges by more manufacturers—is outpacing iOS isn't some kind of surprise. You don't need to own a majority of the market to do well. They were doing well before the iPhone came out without owning a majority of any market they were in.
No, not really. The "real" reason Apple is suing is because they are HISTORICALLY litigious. There's no sales conspiracy needed. It's not some final desperate act. It's standard operating procedure for Apple and has been for years.
That went away with the middle class too. Two sides of the same coin. The rich want control and the poor want big brother to tend to them (generally speaking). A strong middle class is necessary for a free society.
I'll go with C: a government that doesn't spend money like a heroin junky. And it's the same principle too. The more they get, the more they need.
I mean if we're gonna punish someone for spending money on shit they don't need, it seems we should START with the government and not the citizens. Just a thought.
Their prescription drug abuse tops the charts. Who needs to loosen up with a beer when you can get Vicodin for a hangnail. Remember, if your doctor okays it, so does your god!
If you want the 'good' parts you have to take the bad parts.
Why? Since religion is, as you so clearly state, "entirely a human creation" then what stops any particular human from modifying it to best suit their needs.
And besides, if the atheists are right who fucking cares about being "right" or "factual"? If I've got 80ish years to live it seems like focusing on what makes me happy should trump everything else, even if that happiness is a fiction since in death nothing will matter anyway (not that anything really does anyway).
Why do I even bother reading these threads in hope of some interesting discussion? The only threads more retarded than evolution/origin of life ones are the ones related to global warming.
T-Mobile has been fantastic for me in the customer service department. That's the main reason I stayed with them. Verizon's people didn't seem to care about anything, AT&T was downright hostile and Sprint never seemed to have a clue about my account.
Oh yes, and when a guy says his name is Joe, I believe him.
I like static typing when I'm developing applications. I like dynamic when building web apps. There may not even be a rhyme or reason to that beyond the fact that it's just the way I've always done things.
That said, loose typing (PHP, JavaScript) always gives me more of a headache than it solves.
More damage has been done to me by the fact that my brother is completely incapable of not saying the stupidest shit at the most inopportune and inappropriate times than will probably ever be done by my Facebook profile.
With that said, if someone goes digging through my Facebook profile—say as a result of a job interview—and finds something there that's grounds not to hire me. Fine. It's fine. The last thing I want to do is work for a snoop and I know ahead of time that working for a prick organization like that is going to be unpleasant anyway.
Anonymity is fine. Privacy is fine. They're important and absolutely fundamental rights. However, I can exercise mine by choosing NOT to be anonymous and NOT to be private. At the end of the day, if you're that concerned about being private and anonymous, DO NOT SIGN UP OR PARTICIPATE ON FACEBOOK. If you're worried about other people revealing the mundane details of your life on a social network either get rid of your friends or deal with it. Gossip and bullshit are not exactly new inventions.
One point I want to add though is that you don't lose any privacy by using Facebook. If Facebook jacked into my computer and started posting all kinds of things that I didn't authorize it to, that would be losing privacy. However, for the most part, my Facebook profile gets no more data than I CHOOSE to give it. I'm not giving up privacy by using it because nothing I put there is of a private nature. Otherwise it wouldn't be on Facebook.
There is nothing I post on Facebook that I give a rat shit about the whole world seeing including government agencies. It's boring, mundane shit. As for target advertising... can someone tell me why this is a bad thing? I'd rather see 5 adverts about the New York Jets than some product I don't give a shit about.
We'll see. All of these markets are currently evolving in a big way. That model probably won't work long term. Global networking is going to be a reality for basically every device at some point and the idea of caps will eventually become a joke.
They might get their money in the short term, but these dinosaurs don't seem to understand that their days are numbered.
I buy virtually no games new anymore. I just wait for Steam holiday sales and buy in bulk then. This Christmas I got enough stuff to EASILY cover my gaming for this year. $50.00 is too much. $30.00 is about the upper mean of what I'll pay anymore and it's usually much lower than that.
I pay for Netflix and Pandora too. I have no issue paying REASONABLE prices for good services. The reason I am canceling cable TV soon is because the service is mediocre and the price is NOT reasonable. The best part is, with these modern, excellently priced services I don't have to endure a bunch of crap I don't want to consume and I can do all of it at the times I want.
"Hardliners" draw the lines and basically create a zone for most people to even have an opinion. I'm fine with them (and I should be since on some subjects and topics I could easily be described as a hardliner) as long as they're not hurting anyone—and even then, sometimes they still help push ideas and policy.
The "marketplace of ideas" is really more like the "warzone of ideas." Haha. You have to have opposing sides to get anywhere. Even wrong ideas help strengthen and sharpen the right ones as they have to be tested.
With all that said, Stallman is a wack job and I have a profound amount of respect for him.
I'm also glad to see that IE is competitive again. It's not that I want it to dominate every again but I am so sick and tired of feeling like emerging web technologies are held hostage by Microsoft's unwillingness (it's clearly not inability as IE9 is demonstrating) to build a browser that doesn't swallow testicles.
Any particular reason I shouldn't remark about why I didn't buy them?
Not at all. And if Apple related product discussions were that simple all would be well. However, you weren't stating it for that reason:
I guess that would be too overwhelming for an iDevice user?
That's obnoxious.
When the parent made his retarded remark about Flash and inferring that people who don't agree with Apple are wrong, that was also obnoxious. Attack the parent. That's fine. Implying that all iDevice users are too dumb to handle a filesystem is irritating.
People around here need to learn the difference between "dropped the ball" / "missed the mark" and "the product didn't meet my needs." Their sales numbers seem to indicate that if there was a missed mark, it wasn't very big.
Yes, it's growing, but it's not DISPLACING Apple.
Not that this is worth even replying to since anyone with a brain who's participated in this discussion knows that the TFA was just ridiculous.
You're not missing anything. TFA is.

Hahaha. That explains why I've been more interested in the brand of my shoes since I got a Mac.
Desperate?

Land of the free...
Its just hard to enforce, waddya do, have staties at the state line, stopping every car coming over the border from NH to MA ?
I'm sure it won't be long.

This is why fucking government stooges and politicians shouldn't even be allowed to THINK about law that involves technology. Fucking retards.
You bastard.
I haven't seen Church Chat in SO long. Now I have to find more.

Good lord. Size/features != bloat.
Supporting HTML5 video, modern CSS, web fonts and other standards can't be added without increasing the size of the application.

Yes, open source software doesn't require teaching. Just tell the uers to RTFM.
Exactly!
