I understand that they are trying to puch their team services as a server product (like BizTalk, CS, MCMS, etc.) but they should at least have good discounts for getting less usage out of your subscription. Oh well ... it's good to work for a Gold Certified partner!

I doubt it. Microsoft is creating several levels (or even sub-levrls) of MSDN subscriptions now that are geared toward your role. No longer will you have complete and full access to all of their products. You will only have access to products that fullfill your role (or the role for which you paid).

What that means is that I am assuming that there will be a MSDN Universal Game Developer license that will include XNA Studio but the MSDN Universal Software Architect will probably not.

I can dig up a link of you really want me to that provides evidence towards their different levels.

And Windows users just love find's graphical interface. It's so easy to use and remember. But, of course, everyone in the world runs and Unix or Unix-like OS so, of course, none of them have the need to an easy to use GUI and, thus, agree that find is the app for them.

Sorry for the sarcasm, I am mostly just trying to be humorous but it always cracks me up when somebody always asks why would anyone need something other than (pick one): find, vi, grep, TeX, LaTeX, emacs

Myself? I love each and every one of those (well, except vi ... sorry guys, I hate it), but if there wasn't a need for easy-to-use GUI apps, they probably wouldn't exist in such numbers.

I think your reasoning is sound and that's the scary part. There is nothing they can do to prevent professional counterfeiting and they know that. What they are doing is preventing the casual "pirates" from making copies. Does that help them? In my opinion, no way. It fact, I would say that it hurts them in at least two ways.

First, they alienate their customer by treating them like criminals. Of course, most consumers aren't even going to know this because their movis play just fine. However, when you get into the DRM systems used at iTunes, etc. then the consumer quickly realizes how limited they are. I like iTunes, because it's DRM is easily removed and I can FINALLY put my damn AACs on my MiniDisc.

Second, they may even encourage pirates to colloborate and share information more then they normally would just to SPITE them.

I'll have to both agree and disagree. Yes, most places like to have a nice easy way to discard your resume. If you don't have higher education, you make it that much easier for them. That's not to say you wouldn't make a great employee. I have worked with people that have no degree's to people that have degree's in something completely unrelated to computers. While there are one or two of the degree-less that I wouldn't trade for a PhD, the rest just cannot put out the quality of work. That's not because they are not good programmers or are not experienced it's just that they lacked discipline and the ability to quickly adapt.

I know those are all generalizations but I am only repeating my experiences not making a formal statement.

I actually (personally) call those: Debian Server = Testing Debian Workstation = Unstable I don't even feel the need to stick with the stable branch anymore. I just monitor the security mailing list and when I see some updates that affect me I upgrade that package. When a major package is updated (Apache, for instance) I wait a little bit and scan the Internet for success/failure anecdotes before I upgrade. As an example, I updatated my Apache/SSL a bit too soon and it broke my WebDAV Basic Auth. Good thing, as it turns out, as I just switched over to Digest authentication for an added layer of security.

However in online multiplayer games, like id's games) people are much more reluctant to share their keys for fear that they will invalidate their own copy of the game (or at least their use of the game). Of course, that simply breeds newer/better keygens but the really effective keygens seem to lag the release of the game by some amount of time.

I always liked id's product key idea where you cannot play multiplayer if you have an invalid or duplicated key so prior to any decent keygens nobody would ever give out their key. We were more than willing to share the media but we kept our keys locked up tight. Now if HL2 is committed to online activation that would be a slap across the face of the legit customers.
