Actually, all those "zeros" aren't totally zero. There are micro traces of energy used to make them up that get detected out of the equation and rounded down to zero.
I have written a program to transfer all those tiny bits of electricity into a battery I own in another country, and sooner or later with all those round downs, I'll have enough energy to sell to the ex-USSR countries so they won't need gas any more.
I use PuTTY from my WinMob 5 PDA (HTC Universal). I can log into my router and WOL my other machines, then log into them.
You can use PuTTYgen under Linux or Windows to convert your RSA keys to.PPK and retain the security.
id_rsa, id_rsa.pub, id_rsa.ppk. On an SD card/USB key. In case of rubber hose, bite it hard (nod to NVP_Radical_Dreamer).
Ideally, people should have very strong passwords and be able to use them. DenyHosts, Knockd and host keys do help, but determined crackers will always find a way, won't they?
I think you're pushing people towards this site, or another like it.
I found BV's list years ago and it helped me turn off a lot of services that I didn't need. I was under the impression that my copy of WindowsXP was faster and more stable than other peoples'.
At least, it got to 7 years old without needing to be reformatted and reinstalled. Pretty good for Windows if you ask me.
I stopped using Windows a couple of years ago so it doesn't matter to me now, but for all those people that haven't gone Linux yet this site can help keep your box up a bit longer.
No, this is version 4.0.
They want people to take it and improve it before they get a Slashvertisement telling us it is all up and ready to use at version 4.5.
No, the vi/ema*coughshitchough*cs battle has been replaced by KDE/Gno*coughshitchough*me argument.
Even more so, KDE has two camps, those that run a full featured desktop suite with a rich experience for the users with everything they will ever need, and those fools that use 4.x.
Some people just need a little more of a clue about computers in general before they start attempting the things that they come into help channels asking about. You must have come across them, the kind of person that wants to run before they can walk; install a fully working LAMP server before they know how to use a CLI. Some people need talking to rudely, some people just need a nudge in the right direction. If you don't know which you are, then you should probably wonder why people are talking to you a certain way.
As a (modestly) power user I sometimes get talked to like I'm a newbie, but I understand that this is because the best advice when dealing with help/advice is to treat everyone like they know nothing because you might overlook something obvious otherwise.
The catb page on smart questions should be part of the curriculum in our schools. Raise a generation of people who actually think about their problems before they start bothering people with their FAQs.
My Via C7 with Padlock does hardware AES and SHA-1/SHA-512.
I've got the AES working under 2.6.28(.4), but haven't seen the SHA working properly yet. I'm thinking that this would show massive speed improvements with TrueCrypt.
I'll be forwarding every call on that phone to my personal phone so that I can leave it at home/in the office all the time.
If you won't stand the bill, I'll just get my own cards printed with another number on.
If you won't stand that, I'll turn it off and if you're still not happy, you can respectfully go to hell.
Thanks, potential ex-employee.
PS I acquired you 1400 new accounts last quarter, is it worth losing me over a poxy phone?
I can't be bothered getting round the junk filter to list the whole 'fdisk -l/dev/sda' so this is just the last line.
My 701 (EEE 4G) has the EFI partition as the 4th primary on the SSD.
/dev/sda4 - - 486 - 486 - 8032+ - ef - EFI - (FAT-12/16/32) A lot smaller than 16MB too.
I don't know if other implementations need it to be #1, but the EEE certainly doesn't.
I think it is termed "feedback" or something else as utterly corporate.
In our minds we think that if we moan enough about the bad points, someone may listen and make changes to reduce the amount of whining.
A completely side effect of this is that it often makes the company producing the whined about software more popular, and because of this their shares increase in value and their bosses get paid more. They can then invest more money into R&D to produce new products for us to moan about and lather, rinse, repeat.
I didn't actually go to business college or anything, so I might be wrong. Don't quote me or anything, will ya?
This KT400 (Soyo Dragon Ultra) has been running excellently since I moved over to Linux (various distros, currently Gentoo), but XP used to really mess up. I once got flamed for saying that Via/AMD/ATI was the problem, but that could just be because of crappy drivers. Never did get a decent driver for my Radeon.
However, I just got a Via Artigo and have done about 30 hours straight of compilation on it. No lockups, no problems at all. I also did about 20 hours on this KT400 (with Athlon XP 2600+ in) and that hasn't had any problems either.
Updating gcc, emerging system then world takes quite a while...
In answer to all three comments (currently); how about some mild acidic compound?
Coca Cola isn't pleasant when you inhale it, but look at the cleaning properties. Use O2 instead of CO2 and we could be on a winner.
I also had a thought about how to introduce and remove the liquid without such evil choking as depicted by the film.
A mild anaesthetic could be used in the liquid for a few seconds, invert the patient, then introduce air through the tube. Numbing the trachea should help drainage and removal of the tube.
Bear in mind this isn't even alpha stage planning =)
I've been thinking about that whole "filling lungs up with crap" thing for a while. I came to the conclusion that it is (probably) solvable.
The film The Abyss uses a plot device where the divers use an oxygenated liquid to manage the affects of deep diving. Apparently this is a real world technology. "Researching" this post led me to the article on it.
Given then, that liquids can be used in the lungs over periods of time, what is to stop this liquid having some kind of detergent introduced to it?
I'm using a T22 to type on now. I use it as a (semi)thin client to NX into my desktop.
I learned to touch type on this thing and I adore the keyboard. One of the reasons that I like it so much.
I find the nipple easy to use too. Once I got to grips with it I preferred it over the track pads on my other laptops.
Saying that, I use an upside down mouse on my desktop so ordinary rodents aren't exactly my preference.

Trolling for giving Wake-On-Lan and SSH advice?
Gimme a break.
Someone please mod the above post underrated to get this guy meta-modded out of the mod team for a while.
> If you allow ssh access from the wide internet...
Why would you do that?
`ssh -i ~/.ssh/myrouter.key root@my.router.ip '/usr/sbin/wol -i 192.168.0.255 00:11:22:33:44:55'`
But there is no reason on earth to use SSH with password authentication. Ever.
4096bit keys with 30+ character passphrase is my standard at the moment.
Why would you be modded down when nobody bothered to read it?
Try throwing in a few <br>s and you may be pleasantly surprised at your mods.

So you're saying that all sweeping judgements are wrong?
Couldn't resist. karma--

If it helps, this is how I deal with that. I like to imagine them being posted with Comic Book Guy's voice.

Walkmans installed Madonna, and we still haven't gotten rid of her.
If you like Madonna then feel free to read this joke with Michael Jackson in it instead.

I'm just a few years younger than you (mid 30s) and I discovered Amy's voice the same way.
Then I had a conversation about it with someone and they recommended Nightwish to me.
This internet advertising thing really works. I own a lot of CDs from both bands now.

Apologies Mr Franklin.
They don't want the right kind of nuclear power stations.
They will only accept the kind that can produce weapons grade material.
On the other hand, now that the US has a new president they might actually finish off building a very safe reactor.
