    I used to work for a guy here in the UK that would put a penny on a litre of gas (petrol) (5 pennies a gallon, roughly, but we sold by the litre) whenever he wanted to go on holiday.

    The guy in the fuel station up the road I could plainly see was a penny cheaper, yet still punters came in and bought gas (petrol) from us like they always did.

    Now I drive for a living and the money for my fuel comes out of my pocket. You can believe that I shop at Tesco fro my fuel. They guarantee to be cheaper than anywhere within 3 miles of the store, and on some days there can be up to 3 pennies a litre within that 3 miles.

    This still doesn't explain why 80% of the money I spend on fuel is tax, but that is a point for another day.

    And where do you think they are going to get the money to buy it all?
    That's right, from us. The drug companies invest their profits in business schemes the Govt taxes them and then gives the money back to the Africans for some more drugs [usually via the WHO or somesuch, but back it goes nonetheless].

    I think the thermal protection came out with the Barton, at least the on die version. Motherboards had detection cutouts built in for the Palomino too. I was mightily pissed that my KR7A-RAID didn't have it with my Palomino. When I first built the box I had a sub-spec HSF on which didn't quite keep the CPU below 80 under heavy load.

    I am at a total loss as to where the one in my IBM ThinkPad came from. I can hear it rattling about in there, but I KNOW I replaced them all when I had it open for cleaning.

    One day it will rattle to the fan and shoot accross the room.

    Mozilla FireBird [http://mozilla.org/products/firebird] has a search box on the toolbar by default, and it is installed with only Google.com.

    There are other search engines available for installation through the website, including all your favourites.

    There are a few reasons for this.

    There is still a lot of code in FB that needs to be trimmed out (this is pre-release stuff).
    The version you have the link for is the main build, there are people in the forums that are making almost daily builds for specific architectures, and the 7zip self-extracters are smaller than the 6MB full install.

    Give it a shot, it won't hurt, and I'm sure you have 20 minutes spare to at least try?

    Everyone knows that when the next version of MS Office comes out it will likely break even the latest versions of KOffice and OO

    So when it comes out, tell your friends not to bother upgrading to it. You could even suggest they try OOo first, then if they don't like it, stick with what they have.

    If they ask why, just tell them the activation in the latest MSOffice hasn't been cracked yet (ha ha).

    I visit a chat site that has many more women than men, and has been around for more than 10 years.

    VZones or as it is known in Japan, Habitat. Korea has a version called Glass City.

    The software is the WorldsAway system developed by Fujitsu in the 90's.

    You have to pay to play, although there is a try-before-you-buy system in operation if you can find it on the site.

    Being in a chat that has more women than men leads to lots of cybersex, many RealWorld meetings and relationships. If you are from Michigan (I think that is in the States somewhere?) there are meets every few months.

    Have you never built a computer for someone, and put some of your known-good components into the machine, whilst upgrading at the same time?

    I find this to be the single most efficient way to keep on top of technological evolution.
    Someone wants a PC from me, they get a KT400 and AthlonXP, I get an Athlon64 and mobo to replace it. RAM, video and HDDs stay here until I need faster parts, or in the case of HDDs, they get dumped for being too small.

    And you're forgetting that he donated it for FREE.
    Imagine how much money would have been spent on Linux if it wasn't free? SuSE, RedHat, Mandrake and all those other Distros make up a large section of the IT market just on CD SALES and SUPPORT for what is essentially a free product.
    MSFT got rich on selling the same product that Linus gives away for free.

    I use Copperslip on my car's brakes, I'm pretty sure that it contains copper. It's copper coloured. Who knows? I'm not a great researcher.

    If this compound can contain copper, and is designed for extreme temperature, maybe someone could adapt it for use on CPUs.

    Why would you give them your business as opposed to the manufacturers who have actually had substantial amounts of silver in their product all along?

    Because acts like this one, with the compensation levels they are displaying should be a guiding light to all companies.
    Accidents happen, they were duped, even after asking for testing to be done on the product.

    I can put you $1,000 on the gamble that CompUSA do NOTHING about their product and basically sweep the problem under the mat.

    Using OCZ products shows CompUSA and companies of their ilk that consumers appreciate it when we are treat like people instead of accounts.

    The T-Shirt gets me. LAN party talking point anyone? Word of mouth at its best.

    Send a short message to channel op signed with PGP Signature.
    ChanOp verifies and invites to +i channel.

    ChanOp send email to everyone on a lest, they decrypt with PGP the password for the channel then join a limited number channel.

    Thats funny, a few years ago, B2B poured money into the same kind of project, based on the WorldsAway software (habitat in Japan, glass city in Korea and VZones in English speaking countries). It didn't turn out particularly well then, but who knows, maybe this time it might.

    There is room for a killer app in the avatar based chat scene, and SWG might just be it.

    I don't visit [H]ardOCP, I have no objections to Slashdot bringing quality stoies to me, encased in a soothing green light.
    I'm not going to bash [H]ardOCP, but aren't they primarily a hardware site?
    Slashdot likes to mix a little of everything, as in an omlette. I happen to like the mix, and seeing as you are still here, it can't be that unpalettable to you either, I take it?
    Now to the comment, just so I don't get an offtopic mod.. wait, no really, I don't like the case *sigh*

    what manner of madness is this? Surely ICQ is the distributor of a free IM client, and as such you already know that you only need to append /download to the URL to get what you are after?

    Wouldn't it be nice if all websites follwed this standard?

    I have two browsers on my system, FireBird and IE.
    I use FB 99.9% of the time, but I don't have the flash plugin installed. When I need windowsupdate or Flash, I use the FB extension "open with IE" for the page.

    Not necessarily true.

    I don't like half the crap I download, I merely download it to see what it is, then leave i there for others to download, should they desire.

    The majority of the music on my hard drive that I actually listen to is from times gone by. the recent stuff is all cover versions of that anyhow.

    I prefer to go the other way, whenever someone asks me to get them a pirated copy of Office, I encourage them to get OO.org instead, or at least try it for a week, and if they need more features, come back and see me.
    Only then do I tell them that pirating is illegal and I refuse to partici *yawn* sorry...? er.. oh yeah participate in that sort of thing.
