    I always wonder why there isn't more made of LXDE.
    I found it years ago when I was using a 128MB P3 on Arch Linux.
    Now it is my default desktop because there is no need for Akonadi, Pulse, Nepomuk, Strigi or any other crap that comes with KDE. If I want something flashy I'll switch over to E17.

    I gave up on KDE a long time ago and found something that suited me and the way I work.

    Maybe this latest change will shuffle a few n00bs off StarterLinux and onto a distro that suits them better.

    Sometimes I want to enable scripts on a page without enabling Flash.
    Some dickheads use Flash for their menus, which can be enabled separately from the ads and videos if the site is important enough to stay on.

    If you use Windows give Sandboxie a look over.
    When a file is downloaded you can recover to the directory the browser specifies or choose another location. Leaving it inside the sandbox and running it there (keygen, trial install) gives you the opportunity to remove the whole install if it contains malware, foistware or other crap you don't want.

    FlashBlock and NoScript are both important to me.
    Cover from XSS and clickjacking are as important if not more so than the damn audible and visual annoyance that is Flash.

    I wouldn't say the Internet was worth using without NoScript, AdBlock Plus, FlashBlock, HTTPS Everywhere and Password Hasher.
    This is why I stick with Firefox, even though I know it has problems. Running it in SandBoxie is a must for me on Windows.br

    I believe you can draw a picture of Drew Barrymore hooking on LVB with impunity. Furthermore I believe you can sell it for money if people will buy it, or you could even have Seth McFarlane include it in his TV programmes, and he could ask her to voice it herself no matter how offended (or not) she would be.
    However, if you were to claim that it depicted reality you may be faced with the wrath of both her fans and a lawyer.

    I'd have used one of my 5 to mod you up if you hadn't already reached +5.

    I used to get 15 all the time and rarely used any of them. I stopped getting 15 when I got modded down for something. Maybe it was meta modded as negative also. I doubt I'll use more than 1 of the 5 that I have now.

    I've been here so long that I just don't notice the points and haven't worried about karma since it went to "good". The kids these days they know nothing about moderation anyhow, and very few people could ever mod up something they disagree with.

    Firefox 10 also marks addons as compatible by default.

    Actually, when I dropped out of the sandbox and attempted an upgrade the most useful addon I have was declared incompatible.

    I'm just going to take a look now that I've been reminded and see if it will update without moaning.

    Why get some kid (or other underpaid clerk) fired or hassled with retraining for not kowtowing to a megacorp's attempts at being monopolistic over a term that has, for all intents and purposes, entered the common vernacular to mean "tissue"?
    Ratting on people is just sucky. If you personally want a Kleenex branded thin piece of paper to wipe your nose/mouth/ass on, do the decent thing and tell them to their face that they must have misunderstood your request. The other 50 (imaginary) people in the queue behind you probably don't give a crap.

    I've never installed wireless-tools. ifconfig wlan0, wpa_supplicant, dhcpd ... What would you need anything else for?

    I use Arch on my laptop, EEE and torrent server.
    Modern software on rolling release, most files where you expect them to be and no bloat (strigi, nepomuk, akonadi ... ) make this distro a joy to work with.

    Just for giggles I will point out that my desktop machine runs on Gentoo, so obviously I'm a masochist =)

    I set up the kid's PC with a dual boot that defaulted to openSUSE. Windows was there for him to play games on and this was made clear.
    6 years later and he knows more about computers than his peers because he was given the chance to learn something other kids didn't know.

    Don't be too hard on them, they are using Starter Linux because they haven't learned enough to stop dual booting yet, and if they have they haven't got the confidence needed to try their second distro.

    These are all potential geeks who aren't necessarily moronic; they may be uneducated. The fact that they are loud-mouthed means they are enthusiastic and willing.

    Yes, i use MobileSafari on iOS.
    I hate having to have iTunes installed because I have an iOS phone, and all the crap that comes with it should be opt-in, not foist-ware.
    Sandboxie is nice for programs on Windows that you don't like running riot on your box.

    My Android couldn't run Opera properly on the stock Orange ROM, MoDaCo's finest, nor CM 7+ (currently on 7.1.0).
    The idea of Opera is sound, the program does several things really well, but for showing pages, using JavaScript forms, and several other tasks MobileSafari kicks it's arse.

    iOS NEEDS the ability to use aftermarket keyboard programs.

    I have come to iPhone4 from Android and the one daily irritation is the lack of a decent input framework.

    On Android I use SwiftKey (not the X, the old one). Having Hacker's keyboard in there too makes SSH easy to do.

    Why can't Apple see that their "dumb keyboard" is deficient for a "smart phone"?
    Even adding the Jailbreak mod "Autocorrection Bar" didn't help, it made the "space-space=period" disappear and didn't really predict my text enough to keep it installed.
