% goes down to 90 or maybe lower, then the computer goes to sleep (takes 5 minutes or less). Plug it in and wake it, and it say 0% and slowly creeps us one percent at a time. Put it back to sleep and it will recharge in minutes.
Drives me nuts that I have to have it plugged in all the time.
Time = money.
DIY = (Time to find parts, time to build machine, time to set up software, time to fix Windoze problems).
DIY = lots of lost time.

Several years ago, I was testing CuSeeMe for my department. I usually went to a Japanese reflector (to avoid all most of the flasher losers). Every now and then some dumb Yank (I'm American too) would get all angry because they could read what was being written by many of Japanese (I installed a program to let me at least see the Japanese characters--couldn't understand it but it was mighty purdy).
"Write in English *@!" they would type.
Remember this was on a Japanese server. Many of the users were very poor writers of English.
Office X. Part of the problem is that it is a Carbon program. Carbon apps are a crappy and stop-gap by nature. Cocoa apps are the oh-so-sweet apps.
I just spent the afternoon fighting with it's insane table actions. It would change the font, the heading setting, the justification and other settings willy nilly (usually when my wife hit the delete button once too often -- yes, she shouldn't have done that, but Word should not delete format settings because someone hit the delete key).
Word is by far the most frustrating program I have ever used. I'll take a real DTP program (Xpress, InDesign, or even PageMaker) over Word any day.
Since I can't afford any of the above, I'll be looking into LaTex soon (unless it isn't OS X native).
Three to four years ago, when I was an English prof. in Prague. I used our departments' computers as F-servers in IRC to share Anime files.
Unlike you, I was very happy to share the Anime that I found to others. I got a lot of joy seeing the GBs added to my F-servers uploaded data stats. On the main server, I had 8-12 (depended on my mood, more than anything else) open slots for uploading. Most F-servers on IRC had 1 or 2 (if you were lucky).
I only ran the F-servers at night or over the weekend (I was always the first one in the office, so I could stop them and shutdown the Windoze machines before my colleagues arrived.
My IRC nick was SXLain_Praha. Has any of you/.ers leetched from me?
1. Try getting a picture to go where you want it at first go.
2. Try making some columns, then remove them. Then change your mind and try to get them back. Word will start making all parts of the document in columns. I've had many a document trashed because of MS-Word's abilities to handle columns in a sane way.

Uh, just were do you live?
Every phone store here in Sweden sells mobile phones for people who like getting microwaves in their brains, cordless phones for people who like hunting all over the house/apartment for the phone, and standard plug-in phones for people who like to laugh at the other two types of people.
I got my plug-in phone free from a mail-order clothing store when I bought some shirts.
You wrote: cellphones are used to track traffic jam
A student of mine here in Sweden told me that the cell phone network in Stockholm is overloaded every work day during morning rush hour traffic.
People get bored in the traffic jam, so they call up their significant others (or call the office to say they are stuck in traffic). Then the network can't handle it, because everyone in Sweden owns cell phones (except my family, thank God).
This is way off topic, but you brought back a college memory for me too.
After attending a Cleveland Orchestra concert (free ticket via Kent State's School of Music), I and 2 other trombonists stopped at a White Castle for greasy, whole-ridden burgers.
There was a sign posted on their door listing the nutritional value of their meal. Such an oxymoron had to be (and was) pilfered for prosperity.

Here's the story of the relations between the Fink project and OpenOSX. It is unpleasant, but I feel that is has to be made public.
OpenOSX is a business that sells a range of CDs of Open Source applications. The GIMP CD they sell is based to a large part of Fink 0.2.1. Until very recently, the OpenOSX web site made no mention at all of Fink, and as far as I can tell, the CDs themselves still contain no hints. My impression (and that of many others) was that OpenOSX did all the porting - which has now turned out to be wrong.
I was never contacted by OpenOSX about their usage of Fink. Instead, I was notified of the situation by a third party. What followed was a rather unpleasant e-mail conversation with OpenOSX owner Jeshua Lacock. The net result? We almost broke into a flame war and OpenOSX has slightly modified their web site to cover their tracks. They still don't have the courage to openly say which parts are their work and which parts aren't. It also appears they don't want to cooperate with the rest of the Mac OS X Open Source community, and Jeshua doesn't feel like responding to my mails as promised.
I encourage everyone to read the e-mail exchange that led to this and judge for themselves. (Be warned that it's quite lengthy, though.)

Jeshua then stated that "It is absolutely shameful a business would state on their website to avoid CD's they themselves stole from a legitimate business that created the product they are selling. What's even more sad is that MacGimp has high respect in the community."
Now I see why they could not afford a 17" PB (or even a 12" PB). That's gotta suck programming around all day on a tangerine iBook.

May not be perfect, but it's still the best government we have. For now.

I am American too, but I live in Sweden. So I'm allowed to bash them when they do stupid things like being extremely wasteful.
American's are the leading experts in throwing things away.

Like Macally's iceKey and iceMouse.
Someday I'll have money to pair them up with my iBook.

You also can't do that because the Beatles aren't on iTMS (I think).
Any money from the sell of music is just icing on the iPod's revenue cake.
How hard can it be to get something to add a link to fink's web-site?
Like pulling teeth when Jeshua Lacock is involved.

Read their "Press Release" here.
Below is a snippet from the "press release."
Jeshua then stated that "It is absolutely shameful a business would state on their website to avoid CD's they themselves stole from a legitimate business that created the product they are selling. What's even more sad is that MacGimp has high respect in the community."
You'll have to scroll down a lot to get to the actual interview.
I found this via Google:

I sent the email below to the list owner and I have not been removed.
This is ridiculous!
! ! ! R E M O V E M E ! ! !
Or I will set up a filter to resend all gcc mail I receive back to the list!!!
You guys are able to write compilers and you can't get ezmlm configured properly!!?!
Maybe the Anonymous Coward above was correct and not just trolling around.
