    Of course, any temp files and any information written into the swap file could be recovered.

    Also, I can't help but be suspect of any commerical corporation offering me cryptographic security solutions. For all I know, Apple has some way to bypass that encryption that only they (and the NSA) know about. Now, if they allowed for third party encryption options, like using GPG, that would be interesting.

    Funny how SCO is trying to duck out of providing evidence to their "claims". It seems to me that if they were truly wronged, they would be eager to provide proof.

    I think it is also funny that they are concerned about "trade secrets" when everyone knows how Unix works. There is no big mystery.

    I do see your point about the unfairness of G5s being able to get the upgrade. I don't understand it either. I also don't understand why Apple includes those useless coupons since they never seem to be good for anything.

    BTW, shouldn't you be shopping for Zeta instead of Panther? :)

    I totally disagree with you.

    When you ordered your computer, it was indicated which version of the operating system you would be getting. You got what you paid for and your are not entitled to anything further. Also, Panther is not manditory, so if you don't like the policy on this, stay with Jaguar.

    You're right. Apple should just come out and admin that "X" is really being used as the letter X. After all, why would they call the OS "Mac OS X 10.3" if the X really meant ten?

    Personally, I thing that the should change the name to "System X" or MacStep. :)

    What I find sad is Verisign's inability to just manage the .Com and .Net domains without messing up. Why can't they simply do the job they were contracted to do, which includes following defined standards, and shut the fuck up?     I've been using a .Mac address for a while now and I really like it. In addition to the webmail client, my address book and bookmarks are all available to me online thanks to iSync.

    Works better than I expected, honestly.

    And never forget the lesson SCO has taught us: the business that is your friend today (IBM) can be your enemy in the future (SCO/Caldera).

    I don't see how you can get any kind of information since there is no definitive info on Linux usage. You can't simply go by sales the way you could with commercial software. You also can't go by downloads, since some people download the software more then once, especially if network installs are supported.

    IMO, the great thing about free software is that it doesn't exist to win popularity contest but to serve the interests of the public good. It is also a testament to the generosity of developers. (And to all the free software developers out there, I thank you all.)
