I absolutely refuse to support subscription based software.

As far as companies go TransGaming might be one of the less horrible ones (AFAIK), but I find the idea of automatically wanting more money regardless of improvements, service etc. disgusting and imo it has no place in software of all places.

it's not about not wanting to pay, it's more the attitude. paying 45 pounds for each new SuSE box is fine by me, but demanding more money just so I can continue using software I've been using already pisses me off. even the way Mandrake makes you click a link saying you promise to give them money pisses me off, especially when I'm going to download a beta which will actually help them with testing.

if you want to keep my money, let me keep your software. subscription based software is 1000 times worse than closed source imo.

then there's the fact that to enforce the subscription method usually involves restrictions, inconveniences, limitations and a lot of other long words that result in me getting pissed off.

wiretapping has been going on for decades without needing a special tax. now the police have more powers than ever so it should be even cheaper. this is bullshit.

I don't think you understand. even with a real Doom 3 CD in the drive you cannot run the game if you have drive emulation software installed on your computer.

there have been other games (e.g. Painkiller) where you cannot run the game if you have CD writer software installed on your computer.

I'm not talking about actually using the emulation /writer software. If it is simply installed you cannot get the game you paid for to work.

This is like not being able to play DVDs if you have video codecs installed, just because some dumbfuck company thinks having codecs installed mean you will rip, encode and pirate.

P.S. I don't have to justify anything - since I cannot run the software I don't. I have not pirated the game, or any other game. I have no problem paying for software, but if the software will mess me about and try to say what I can and cannot have installed on my own computer, then I simply take my business elsewhere.

tablets will never be done. a tablet is essentially just a very portable laptop with a touchscreen. this is a very good idea and the only problem is getting a good price/performance balance. time will solve this problem.

    consider the evidence:
electronic organisers evolved to PDAs with touchscreen and handwriting recognition.

mobile phones evolved to smartphones with touchscreen and handwriting recognition.

laptops will evolve to tablets with touchscreen and handwriting recognition. to claim otherwise seems foolish.
