if it's pure theory it shouldn't be patented in the first place.
unless you can say "look this litte experiment shows it works" you should be told to go away.
you can't just say "I think this'll work, if anyone actually invests in trying it gimme gimme gimme all teh royalties!!!1".
once again: if your proof is just theoretical then it should not be patentable. what you're describing is a nightmare situation: what if Einstein had patented "a system and method of performing tasks utilising discrete electromagnetic wave packets" after he prooved the existence of photons?
the problem being despite obviousness the owner of the patent can claim "you saw it here first", whereas the individual often has nothing to prove they came up with the idea naturally.
assuming software patents are enforced it seems "reasonable" (c.f. DMCA "effective security") that you can stop a company selling a product violating a patent. but can you possibly stop individuals writing their own code?
so AFAIK software patents have the possibility of stopping the business end of linux, but can't fundamentally be a threat to its existence?
a pop-up send via Windows Backdoor(tm), also known as Windows Messenger, a mostly useless service in XP that was set to default to on for some insanely stupid reason.
since when has public view been important to linux?
and linux was doing just fine before IBM et al. hint: they came to linux because they saw great potential, no one cold-called IBM and made a sales pitch.
fundamentally linux is about talented people writing software based on principles. to kill linux you pay everyone money to stop, kill everyone involved with it, or pass a law abolishing rights such as free speech.
maybe it'd be another Reichstag fire though? with MS, Disney et al. shouting "this is a communist conspiracy against intellectual property. We must demand all products be DRM'd"

doesn't the file name WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe suggest this is NOT final? I'm not so familiar with MS naming but this sounds more like a "hotfix" than a final SP e.g. the simpler name O2kSp3.exe for Office 2000.
well yes it can be split e.g. odd numbered lines and even numbered lines.
depending on the scene it won't always be a perfect split of the workload, but it should be pretty damn close.
philosophy and science have always been linked

and today science is still a major source of philosophical debate, both directly e.g. consequences of quantum mechanics, cosmology... and indirectly e.g. cloning.
the very meaning of Ph.D. is quite a big hint too.
but I still consider myself a scientist because I think an important thing is that no matter how good your logic is and how nice your explanations are, it doesn't mean a thing if it's inconsistent with ***observations***.
mathematics is the subject for people who have great logic but don't concern themselves with it actually having any relevence to our own universe.
modern "pure philosophers" are people who don't care about their logic being relevent to this universe or any other!;-)
no, driving slow is almost never dangerous. if you can't see slower drivers and slow down or change lanes safely and with plenty of time, always maintaining a safe distance between all cars, then YOU are the dangerous one.
I remind you that (in the UK at least), the driver in front should be able to slam his brakes on without it having any serious effect on your driving. if it does have a serious effect then you are not paying enough attention or giving enough room. if you drive into the back of another care you are always 100% to blame here.
maybe the insightful part is where I hinted at linux, being open source, forkable and being developed for its own sake rather than profit, inspires trust in its users and optimism about the future.
whereas MS's new releases mostly serve just to extract more money and force non-uninstallable software on users which would otherwise never be touched.
sure this is all just my opinion. maybe other people don't feel content using something that didn't cost hundreds of $currency. but if you take away opinions there isn't much left in life.

...is a desperate move, so why bother with this Troll/Flamebait article?
what makes you think that it would get as far as a court case if they decided to go on the offensive?
kinda like saying, "no one I've killed ever complained to the police, so they must have all been fine with it"
My phone has the real internet, though the more compicated sites don't work right.
WAP's problem is the developer has to put in extra effort just to deliver a crappy version.
XHTML and the real internet is the future. Flash is a cancer.
and a computer should only be an unsigned integer adding machine god damn it!
I advise you to turn off automatic MMS download if you have not already done so.
Orange sends crap to your phone such as trailers for Catwoman.
The "do not download if bigger than x kb" defaults to 100k but Orange will send 99.9Kb files to bypass this.
Once again the best thing is to deactivate automatic downloads of messages.

er, no. RTFA. these guys were actually caught, put in court, found guilty, ordered to stop (and have), and will be monitored for the next 5 years.
this single ruling has had a huge effect already.

The new Motorola CN620 automagically switches to WiFi in hotspots.
(hopefully) that discussions should not be reduced to a set of childish rules.
>I heard about an interview where they asked him why he would talk so slow. He answered that he did it for more on-camera time... kinda funny.
Adam West said that about playing Batman. Robin was pissed off.
or in other words "I recommend fire. And lots of it."

of course it's not stupid.
1 scratch, you have to buy the whole thing again.
and no matter what side it lands, there's data to be scratched.
muhahahahahhahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa
1. change probabilities in your favour
2. wait for a large sample of events
3. profit!!!
hahaha I go one better and write perl scripts which don't need compiling ;-)

speeders are real criminals. they endanger other people's lives. they do actually maim or kill thousands of people every year.

I don't remember you bitching about beta MS Service Packs making front page?
