I was put off reading the article because he is either 1. stupid, or 2. using shock value just to get attention (something I don't want to support)
I say this because of the "defending spammers" part: his intention being to get the response "OMG he's defending spammers! quick let's all read it and generate teh ad revenue!!!1".
or he's just stupid and confusing reason with support. there are valid reasons why people steal, murder rape etc. pointing out these reasons in no way means you think it's a *good* reason or support the murder etc.
(btw, it's +5 Insightful, not +4, and the text you quote isn't even me.)
one thing that pisses me off is how Thunderbird defults to writing emails in HTML.
what's the fucking point of this!? HTML email is crap and pointless and only useful for spam. why do the developers spend so much time integrating anti-spam options, then go make this idiotic contribution to the email?
but no loading of remote images is a great option.
it's not about talking or ot talking, it's about the way you talk.
people on mobiles tend to talk louder, and that's why they're annoying. anyone having a regular conversation at the same volume would be equally annoying.
yes, this means you! record yourself and see, dickhead.
going to a concert and hearing someone play some difficult music, you think "wow, it's great to experience such great talent".
if it turns out they were just faking it with a CD playing then it IS devalued.
consider your argument in another context: someone scores 100% in a difficult exam. you think they must be very good. then the examiner tells you he was caught cheating, so you don't think he's good any more. then the examiner says he was talking about another guy who got 100%, so you think he's good once again.
even though you repeatedly change your opinion based on things that happened AFTER the exam (concert), you are completely justified in doing so.
I doubt you'll find many of these buzzwords in art/literature, they are a marketing device intended only to make the writer seem more important/intelligent.
my claim of stupid and insecure was general, not intended to be taken personally by anyone.
I don't hate these words because of comprehension. since I work in science there are plenty of opportunities for obfuscation and things are often complicated enough.
eloquence is about persuasive discourse, and in my experience people who use long words when smaller ones will suffice are usually covering up for something.
I do use linux. I only use windows for 1. occasionally making some graphs with Excel 2. watching DVDs (no support for graphics card acceleration) 3. Virtual Pool 3
the only other things windows has going for it for me is: 1. I haven't found an mp3 player as good as MusicMatch Jukebox 2. dcgui-qt not quite as user-friendly as DC++
so maybe I'm wrong about wine since I don't really require or use it, I guess I must have been confused by the fact that the first thing winesetup says is it can violate my windows installation and the second thing it says is I should copy all my windows files.
since when is being "backed by a single... vendor" a good thing?
also, does anyone else read the slogan "SCO Grows Your Business" and immediately associate them with the "G3n3r1c Vi 4g ara!!!"-type of business?

WineConf 2004 Wrapup
·
· Score: 0, Flamebait
the version of wine I have (quite new) requires that I have a windows partition with everything installed there.
and then it says it might ruin it, so recommends copying the whole thing.
I'm not trying to flame/troll, but this doesn't seem like "emulation" to me... "MS Windows Emulator*!!!!"
*MS Windows required.
I guess the problem is MS copyrights meaning they can't just distribute the required files? or even attempt to reverse engineer?

The Simpsons Movie
·
· Score: 1
my favourite episode is probably "Homer Badman" (accused of sexual harrassment).
just thinking of the "see you in hell, candy-boys!" scene makes me laugh.
I think with the Simpsons, usually the best things aren't in the main story. often I'll remember the story and think an episode isn't too good, but then if I actually watch it there'll be lots of hilarious little things I didn't think of.

the implementation is far too complicated.
fixing SMTP is the best way.
thieves with no money who mug old ladies are responding to "economic forces" too.
it makes good business sense to not bother protecting workers' health or the environment beyond the minimum you can get away with.
just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.
so what's the point? flamebait story?
LOL!
the truth hurts.
FYI: he also cut off his own dick.
duh, you can copy the info but not the format.
yes, this is a very good idea.

fully-functional ATI drivers (with newbie-proof installer), then I for one welcome our complicated-new-kernel overlords.
I knew about crossover but until you made the link I was too lazy to check it out!
I've just installed Word and Excel using the 30-day trial. it rules!
I do most of my work in linux but like Excel for making graphs, so this is a great time-saver.
I found the installation hilarious "simulating Windows rebooting" - bwahahahahahahaaaaaaaaa!

if you actually bother to read some comments you'll see you are completely redundant.
plus, what kind of retard can't realise that this is the DVD-related CSS WHEN THE TITLE OF THE FUCKING STORY STARTS WITH "D V D"!?
he saw the link, then typed it out for the benefit of IE users.
wait...
click on the link on the LHS and you get the Haikus IN perl.

I think you mean that the designs for different programs that run on Windows are uniform. those from MS itself are horribly inconsistent.
prices COULD be a lot lower since advertisement would be word-of-mouth not multi-million $currency campaigns.
the only thing that might prevent this is Opencoke having higher operating costs due to small-scale production.
how about "use spare bandwidth" instead of "leverage unused bandwidth"?
I find "utilise" far more robotic and sterile than "use".

oh god please tell me he didn't use the word "leverage".
I hate the way stupid, insecure people constantly need to find long, pretentious words when "use" is perfectly adequate.
"utilise" is my no. 1 most hated word ever, but "leverage" seems to be trying to take its place.

but look at that logo! beautiful!
can't wait to have it on my taskbar, but can't get a download atm.
reminds me a little of Starfox/wing...
