I liked Descent a good deal, of course. But, I really wish Descent: Freespace would make a comeback.. those were and still are some of my favorite games ever made.
Yep, better product, better price and you can install Cyanogen/AOSP to clear any backdoors. With Apple products you're stuck with your OS spying on you.
why do you think cyan/aosp isn't spying on you? And what about all the malicious apps? if i lived in china, home of the filthy filthy app store, I'd want some protection.
I believe that video games do have a bad public image, but I believe it's because they're viewed as a waste of time. I don't necessicarily agree with that view, but I can see why people may think so. You sit on your couch for hours on end pushing buttons with your hand. My parents never liked any of us playing video games unless the weather was too bad outside to go play. They hated my Everquest days.
So, it's not so much the content of the video games, more the medium.
I use FreeBSD on a daily basis, I have FreeBSD servers, a FreeBSD development machine, and a FreeBSD daily use desktop (irc, email, web browsing, im, etc.)
As it stands now yes, FreeBSD has both the newest versions of KDE and Gnome, and as far as I know the newest version of all the bigger window managers. However, as it stands now FreeBSD is not really a viable desktop in the same way that Linux is. This is because of the two major 3rd party softwares, neither of which are open source.
Flash on FreeBSD is rather a joke, which is not to say that the people who work on the flash ports aren't doing well, but going to any flash site is a gamble. Pandora and Google Video, both sites that I go to regularly, lock up Firefox completely.
And then there's Java. Java is marked restricted in the ports because of licensing issues, is non-redistributable (hope I spelled that right). Java is a real pain in the arse on FreeBSD. In my experience, the chances of a successful build are about 50/50 at best. You have to download several larger files and move them into the distfiles directory, start the build and cross your fingers and wait.. many hours..
There are other problems as well, for FreeBSD as a desktop os like Linux, but these are the major two... everybody expects to be able to browse the web on a desktop OS with little to no trouble. And as it stands now FreeBSD is unable to deliver an easy to use, out-of-the-box solution for desktop use.
I hope this doesn't start a flame war, just adding my two cents.
I work for a fairly small school district in a rural community. As far as the managment of the systems goes, the lack of automation for things causes the most headaches. Other than that it's mainly sitting in my office watching the servers. Every now and again one of our drives will fail. Now, as far as things that bug me that aren't really part of my job go, the student management software is hell. It's poorly made and all that, but, even more annoying is that faculty doesn't know how to use it, and we get constant calls on "how do I set whatever code" and I don't really know. We paid to send ALL of our faculty to courses to learn how to use it, but not the IT staff. So, we have to tell them to just call the company. They get pretty upset when we say that. My manager is... unique. He's one of the most shady people I've ever met in my life, and I grew up with drug dealers/addicts. He drives me insane. I'd say working for a school district isn't probably too much different than working in any other IT department, other than our customers are students and teachers.
I agree. I like the Monster Assault. It tastes pretty good for an energy drink.
I do feel it necessicary to point out the two different types of energy drinks though. There are the small ones and the big ones. They act differently. The larger ones (typically monster, rockstar, etc..) they usually aren't as potent and affect you over a longer period of time. The smaller ones, such as redbull, are very concentrated and give you a huge rush of energy and then a big crash.
As far as preference goes, I really do prefer the larger ones.
Maybe... Justin Frankel ? Got a lot to thank him for... The better versions of winamp, gnutella, and waste. He's actually contributed a lot more to the computer users than most people realize.
Well, some may call that progress, it's really a band-aid solution to a much larger problem Microsoft appears to be addressing already. Their codebase is OLD, not to mention poorly designed. NT was written as kind of a test bed for new technology. It wasn't originally designed to be a production system. Now, you've got a million people doing a billion different things to who the hell knows how much code. It's hard to make much in the way of progress if you're trying to swim up a waterfall. I think the only way they're going to make progress is to change directions.
It all depends on what you want. The game itself is darker, and in some senses cheesier than The Sands of Time, however it is much harder. It'll also be part of the story. Think of the last three Prince of Persia games like the Indiana Jones series. The first one was good, the second one was okay and, almost too dark for it's own good, and the last one was good. So, if you want to play a game similar to The Sands of Time, no don't bother with Warrior Within. If you want a challening game, and to know more of the story, yes.. play it.
It's still a great puzzle platformer. I've been playing it since the day it came out. The puzzle isn't so much look around the room and figure out where to go, slowly making progress. The challenge now is to figure out where you're going to go, fast, and get it right on the first try. The combat system has changed a lot from the Sands of Time and even Warrior Within. It requires much more stragety.
A bar of soap?! Pfft... I'll stick to my Dr Bronner's peppermint liquid soap, thanks:)
I would suggest however, considering getting a new hobby. Seems like too many people these days like to troll. Sure, it's fun for 13 year old middle class kids who're mad at their parents and have nothing else to do, but it's time to do something useful. Perhaps even read a book if you're feeling daring.
Well, the reason spyare companies get away scot-free, I think, is because the people in charge of making the laws don't really fully understand the problem. Well, that and they're really too busy trying to kill one another and fighting over political affiliations.
I use (reluctantly) Windows XP with MediaPortal. I can't say it was as cheap a machine to get up and running as an xbox mod, but it can do pretty much whatever I need.
I have a Hauppauge pvr500, 1gb ram, 200gb hdd, 2ghz processor, and a geforce 6600gt in it running MediaPortal. I don't know the exact cost, but I'd say quite a bit higher than an xbox+modchip
Will they be using a standard format then that would be compatbile with many devices or are they going to be using a custom format? Wait.. do I REALLY need Mickey Mouse (C) on my cell phone?
Trendy or not, take an objective view on it. There are some popular movies that I think are great, and popular for a reason. Then there are weak movies with a huge marketing push (see The Hulk).
I mean origional ideas for movies, not a movie based on a comic book, or a story. Though arguably the one series that started this is in fact a good series.. The last good movie I saw was "13". Thats an origional story.
Thanks largely in part to the wonderfully large corporate conglomerate theatres by my house (all 4 of them) there are no more independent theatres left around me.
I don't know if anyone else felt this way, but is ANOTHER sequel to a bad movie something to look forward to? I'm looking forward to something origional again. There have been what? 4 or 5 sequels out this year? Where is the origionality at?
Why would anyone would to apply this type of license to movies or ebooks? Think about it... the tracks on an audio cd don't really depend upon other tracks, meaning you can downloading (or license) one track and who cares right? You don't usually have to hear the other tracks to be able to enjoy a single track. Movies would be different, as would books... would you buy a part of a story? I don't think I would, and if I were going to have to purchase the entire movie or book to be able to buy a license for it, I'd rather go to a book store or a video store and purchase a real copy...
Maybe I'm just looking at this wrong.. not seeing the true intent of the article?

Well, you have to have trust in the Cyanogenmod people which is reinforced by being allowed to see the source and build it yourself. As far as malicious apps go, on Cyanogenmod, they've recently added "Privacy Guard" which basically chroots any app in a sandbox and emulates all parts of the system, but allows no chrooted app to see any data from any other app. http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/06/24/privacy-guard-formerly-incognito-mode-has-been-merged-into-cyanogenmod-will-appear-in-nightlies-starting-today/

If I'm not mistaken, Bell Labs? Perhaps Novell...

I'd say the real questions is why? Why not spend the time and resources improving existing products?
