But they can run Linux! The old PowerMacs make great servers and the iMac's are great thin clients (or servers if you don't mind the monitor). OS X is not the end all be all that all these fanboys make out. Good hardware is good hardware. The fact that it's PPC also adds a little security through obscurity should you give it a public ip. Most exploits are calculated for x86 hardware.

Funny you should mention that, but Safari had a similar exploit around last May. While I love my PowerBook and OS X (I've even achieved mythical "fanboy" status in several forums), let's not forget that all software has bugs and more will invariably be found. The best thing that we can do is promote a healthy software ecosystem so that those without their head up their asses can switch to the alternative when any one piece of software has a dangerous exploit in the wild. I personally use Safari, Firefox and Camino regularly. If MS had continued updating IE for the Mac, I might consider using it still. But without tab support, it's dead to me...

I can't tell you how excited I would be to have each one available without having to reboot. Right now the best I can do is X running on ctrl-alt-f7 and Mac-on-Linux on ctrl-alt-f8. I nfs export my home directory to the virtual MOL network interface so that I can manipulate the same files no matter which GUI I'm using. It's definitely a bit of a kludge, but this looks like a great solution. I just wonder which OS I'll use as the file server for my /home...

P.S. Good point about the mindless apple dittoheads. That was really constructive to your argument. As you can see, I'm one mac fanboy who agrees with you about partitioning. The "half-assed HCI theory" is there to discourage ambiguous input. When I have taps enabled, far too often I find touching the trackpad selects/deselects something when I didn't want it to. This is esp. annoying when my big ass hands are typing in a text field and my thumb knuckle grazes the trackpad. This switches the window- unacceptable!
