Their argument does have substance if you ignore the rhetoric. They even impolitely told you to do as such. Real life is not a true/false statement where if one part of the sentence is false, the rest must be, and thus invalidates their entire point. In case you wish to not look past their rhetoric their point is:
Apple is suing Samsung to set a precedent where if they win, it gives the ability to go after other manufacturers who have similar designs and demand licensing fees with a threat of a lawsuit if those companies don't pay for the licensing fee.
Apple never has been, nor will they ever be the only company to do this. IMO, any company who does this is run by jerks. I realize companies exist to maintain profit for their shareholders, but that doesn't mean you have to be a jerk at every opportunity.
I've only ever done it once - during the holiday season when I had planned on taking A LOT of time off - and I didn't have anything specific planned. Other times I wouldn't have done so if they asked - as I had specific plans.
It's not irresponsible in the sense that you're being irresponsible to the company. It's being irresponsible to yourself because you know there's a chance you might be creating unnecessary grief to yourself. The grief I speak of is not an earful from the higher ups, but the unnecessary extra work that might occur. Like I said, if it takes me five minutes to answer a simple question or two, I don't mind. If you mind doing it, I respect that too. It is your personal time after all.
I've only ever rescheduled my vacation time once when asked, and the only reason I did it was because I had planned on taking two weeks off during the Christmas holidays when just about everyone uses the last of their vacation time. They wanted to make sure I was there for one day on the last day of the month to iron out any issues that could have arrived when I was gone. Not a big deal (I use a vacation day a day earlier than I had planned) as I had no set plans on my time off. I just wanted to use the time I had because it's "use it or lose it" and I made it very clear that they will either pay out the time or have it carry over if they wouldn't let me use it.
Now as far as the management trying to narrow that knowledge gap, they're trying, but I get the feeling they aren't trying hard enough. There is no one person where I work that I can train up to my level. I've tried with a few people and none of them are motivated enough to do it. I'm generally pretty good at turning people around and making them useful (I tend to get all of the rejects the other teams no longer want), but I'm considered top tier talent for my company. I just wish they would pay for the talent they could hire so that I'm no longer the single point of failure in that regard. I do however document as much as I can and share knowledge as much as I can. This doesn't mean I've covered every angle, or that every employee I have under my wing is talented enough in whatever sense to make use of it all.
You're over reaching here. Those 1 or 2 items that only I can answer rarely come up. Things like that just tend to happen at the most inconvenient of times, although I do agree that I'm a SPOF in the company, but for other reasons that don't necessarily pertain to this.
I think the reason is that people assume piracy as the first thing. Eon's ago I asked what were the non-infringing uses of sites like Megaupload (as at the time I couldn't think of any - call it a brain fart or ignorance, or whatever). Some people were actually polite enough to explain to me what the legitimate uses were. I think it all just stems from a knee-jerk reaction. I think if people bothered to take the time to really think about it, it's rather obvious. I know I felt a little stupid when people explained it to me. It was very much a "duh" moment.
Newsflash Bucko, not all dictionary definitions are correct. I can pick a random word out of any of the major dictionaries and their definitions can differ in their content. Some definitions don't even consider the eytmology of the word, which creates a divide.
In any case, copyright infringement is not theft. You haven't physically stolen anything. All I have done is copied data that was already there and not destroy it in the process (which if I had destroyed it in the process, I could potentially see how someone could claim theft then).
I know that while my team can handle a lot of issues when I'm going away, I know that there are a few questions that no one on my team or my boss could definitively answer. Taking the 5 minutes to answer them while I'm away would ultimately save me hours of headache when I eventually arrive back at work. It also normally equates into customer satisfaction which normally leads to their return business. I do like having a place to work at after I return from my vacations.
I'm curious, what part of their last sentence did you not understand? They already conceded on the point that in some critical applications that this would work, but not in consumer grade electronics. I think anything costing as much as you stated would fall under the "mission critical application" idea.
Oh, traces break. I've seen it numerous times - granted it's due to other sources causing them to break. Besides, if enough electromigration happens, you can effectively call it, "broken", as in it doesn't work properly anymore. Seriously, playing the game of semantics here is pointless, though it was a good effort on increasing the vocabulary of the community.
In general PCB's are designed in a way where there's a layer of substrate (i.e. whatever the PCB is made out of) between that trace and the next one. I work with industrial electronics for a living. The biggest annoyance I see is when boards are literally fried from components blowing up. This can very easily cause the traces to go open. This alloy would attempt to keep the connectivity there which could cause further mishaps. The issue is compounded when the board is burned and the carbon in the board starts shorting traces together.
Failures like open traces almost never happen, but when you have 100k+ of a device out in the field, even 3% failure rate can yield a lot of repairs.
Lawsuit for what specifically? Why wouldn't Google have the right to take down content on it's websites at will? What law says they can't do this? I'm not saying Google or UMG is in the right ethically speaking, but everyone screaming, "ZOMG LAWSUIT!!!!!111oneoneone" is rather pointless.
Corporate agreements can get around law only if they are legal. I doubt there's any law that states company x cannot allow company y rights to do things with company x's property.
As a member of the male population, I would like to thank you for not giving in and wearing makeup all the time. There's a lot of charm to a woman who doesn't need to plaster her face in that stuff.
Why do you have them in the first place? Is there some educational need for the school to have them, or they being used for security purposes throughout the school?
As a lead, I find it's a two way street. I will tell you what needs done that day. I may even tell you how to prioritize your responsibilities. If you have questions, that's great. I will answer them so that you can get your shit done in a timely manner. Arguing with me every step of the way or just, or just doing things your own way is when I tell the people to hit the door if they don't like how I'm doing things. I've only ever had to use that line twice. Guess what? Both of those employees stayed. I hate it when people try to create unnecessary power struggles. If you want to be in a leadership position, then show that you have those capabilities. Fighting with your direct superior over every little thing doesn't get you there and then you have the stigma of being difficult to work with.
If you're constantly doing things the wrong way, maybe it's not the leads. Maybe it's you. Maybe things were changed midstream and they forgot to tell you. Maybe they did tell you and you blew them off. Learning how to deal with others around you and playing office politics in general will get you further. I've been in all of those situations and I've had to learn some of those lessons the hard way. Now that I've been through it, I'm doing much better where I'm at. From what you posted, I can't help but feel you have sort of a victim mentality going on. My advice to you is to let it go and take a look at yourself. Maybe, just maybe you aren't perfect.
I'm trying to figure out the part where the phone company pays someone every time they buy a cell phone. As far as I can tell, money is being exchanged from me to them. Not from them to me. Is there some new company out there I should be aware of? I like free money.

But according to Apple, American's don't have the skills to be doing unskilled labor like this. Quite insulting isn't it?

This is very recent. They must be losing more business than they thought they would have lost by secretly supporting it.
Cooked pasta loosely held together by hope and willpower.
Someone mod this AC up as informative. They're spot on.

Public Service Announcement
Me: Do you touch yourself at night?
Cleverbot: Yes, sometimes. Why do you ask?
Me: Describe it for me.
Cleverbot: I was not there.
Then I tried some phrases in Japanese. It first told me that it did not speak Japanese, then it went on uttering phrases back at me in Japanese.
All in all, it's an idiot savant of a bot. It's no worse than your average trolling tard.
Obviously they're running loose now. Now's my chance! Gotta catch 'em all!

Why not transfer it via other means? Why even bother having apple in the equation?
