It appears you are now the authority on who is and who is not who they are. Please look at my journal at Slashdot. A lot of people have been supportive.. but it seem that a lot of people mostly AMERICAN are more interested in taking their own vendetta against foreign people like the Chinese. This is international site and even though sometimes we are not all as good at English as AMERICAN we should get on with each other a bit better!
You don't need a billion people checking the code, you need a few people who know how to check it
Ah! But you could say the adjudicators and the voting committees are there to do just that! I still fail to see how open source help anyone but technical people trust the voting system..
If the system is open source then you have open source code to the system which means people can see how the system works. This mean that people could come up with back door or understand certain keypresses to activate easter egg and other undesirable outcomes.. The more popular something is, the more it will be hacked.
And does having source code in front of our eye really tell us that the voting system is legitimate? As I read on Slashdot earlier today India is going to be using electronic voting system for next major election. Do most of one billions people in India know to read source code or understand how it work? Again I think not, so open source is not too useful for checking legitimacy unless you are technical and understand to read source codes...
What if, as in certain country around the world, you simply had no patents? It works this way already a lot of time. Let me explain. If someone invents and patents something in America and then someone in China want to make the same item or use same process, then the company in America can do nothing!!
Since the world is becoming one big economy and unit having separate patent in multiple country is like having no patent at all! So perhaps we could live without patents at all, and who ever can market the best and produce the best product will win?
This is a good 'free market' idea.. after all, you just let the free market decide whose interpretation of an idea is better.
One other use, which I have been investigating as a personal project, is using the vibrating phone feature so you can get message without anyone else knowing. I did not look at morse code initially as a solution as it too slow, but if you can get phone to vibrate in way in which you can work out the message, you could receive message in secret..
Python is interesting experiment. In our computer programming classes we allow student to pick two language to major in. One must be choice of proper establish language like C , C++ , Perl, etc and other must be modern experimental choice like Python , Java , etc. Python has become most popular choice for second language at University, and I'm not sure why!
One good thing is that there now unicode file support for windows which was a big annoyance to the student before. Now they can actual code in Chinese and save files in Chinese names...
Another good point for international user is.. universal new line support which mean Python can now support Chinese newlines as well as American ones. Bravo Python team. A much more international liked language is coming along!
As we do not get access to many news site in China, I very happy to read this story on here.
Upgrading kernel is important for stability of system to run our university and other system.. so I will now instruct technical people to upgrade kernels on mission critical machine straight away!
Will using 2.6 be a big improvement over our existing 2.5 boxes? Also is upgrading to PHP 5 beta a worth while idea?
Judge by your online c.v. that your last proper job was ended in March 2002 and you are going to waste money going Slovakia? I know Europe gasoline is not cheap! However.. judging by what Slashdot people say of jobs in West, you will probably have more luck finding a job in Russia anyway! Good luck!
(I am constant surprised what effort people go to to be with fat sweaty men programmer.. I prefer company of womens..)
We did study on size of infrastructure of Internet for demographic studies and thanks to partners at Stanford, found that Google setup now is bigger than the whole Internet in 1995 in terms of machines and total bandwidths. Grid computing definitely works..
The average executive compensation has been creeping up towards 500 - 600 times the average employee compensation.
So the average American 'executive' earns about $18 million a year now? I am in wrong country!

However the kiddie cannot go on site to install things, the kiddie cannot offer service contract, the kiddie cannot talk to the user professionally, the kiddie cannot document system properly...
If you show professionalism in your 'free' work you can turn it into money and not worry about the 'kiddies'.
If you run out moneys then you can go live in friendlier country based on socialism or communism instead of rude arrogant capitalist system which force people to work to get what they want.
Just ask any other Americans. If you live in China the communist system give you free money all the time for doing nothing perfect for open source coding! This is why all best open source coding is from China, of course.
(I am joking of course, I am Chinese and just playing joke. Capitalism are good, and Chinese open source is suck.)
We are a small (5 man) specialized software company which is merging with a larger (200+ employee) company. Basically they are buying us to add a whole new product line and have us be their development skunkworks.

You, Sir, are a cad and a bounder! There is big difference between weblog and journal. A journal is someone notes and thoughts and observations of what they are doing.. somewhat like a diary, but online. Okay, a lot of weblog are like that, but that's not technically a weblog.
A weblog is a site that primarily links to other site, links to interesting online finds, and so on. Somewhat like Slashdot, Memepool or MetaFilter. A weblog like Slashdot is not comparable to an online journal belonging to some 16 year old girl!!
and oil is its major cash export. That oil is expected to last, at most, another 35 years.
I disagree. They were report that all oil in People Republic Of China would run out 'by 2002' and this was back in the 1970s!
I know there are ecnomical studies in 1970s in America with similar awful predictions for oil and coal reserve worldwide from place to place and yet no one has run out of oil gas coal yet.
These predicts only predict on what current reserve exist but new oil gas coal holes are found all of the time. I severe doubt Trindidad And Tobago will run out of oil in 35 year.
From the China perspective this seem a funny situation for America. America say that everyone in America has freedom and to an extent that is very true, more so than other countrys. But then American citizens, writers, academics, so on, all claim that American military (DARPA being a department of which?) are using latest innovations to spy on people!
I am sure American army has many more important things to do than spy on its own people. And the main question are.. would the army really give up highly valuable new military technologies to the domestic guard anyway?
I cannot say much but I know that in People Republic Of China, we keep military and police very seperete. Although, being an 'academic', I do not need worry to such things so often...
I have found 900 mhz to be very reliable. I connect to network at University from home using 900 mhz network equipments. Sometime service is down for an hour here or there but this may be more because of problems at the University network.
In China, we have ways of making sure wireless space becomes not over crowded. Crowded could be a big problem because of the population, billions of people! Only top academic, scientist and politican can use wirless networking in my city, because otherwise it'd be overcrowded. Perhaps similar laws could be applyed in your area, so that overcrowding of the frequencys does not occur?
How the fuck is that ironic?

There's an article on GameSpot reviewing the ultimate MMOG - real life!
The O stands for on-line as oppose to off-line. Therefore, real life is not an MMOG, but a.. MMG?

I heard funny joke about this at the University. I will try to tell...
QUESTION.. What is the difference between married American man and single Chinese man?
ANSWER.. The single Chinese man cannot leave his country when he want but he can leave his house whenever he likes.
But the married American man has freedom to leave his country any time he want, but HE CANNOT LEAVE THE HOUSE!
To "Anonymous Coward" I hear lot of people say my name every day and they do not laugh! I do not get your joke..
