    When I read that my ISP (Cox) was going to block port 135, I started typing out a letter to them, stating my objection to that action. I was going to say that, as a Linux user, I was not affected and should be able to opt out of the block, etc...

    Then I realized how pathetic I was sounding, and I deleted the file.

    This thread is making me wish I had sent that letter.

    I want someone to start writing a Linux virus right now. And if they won't, someone should commission them to.

    That doesn't preclude them from trying... after all, they have started becoming more innovative in the method of attack (i.e., the P2P-Porn bill). And do not forget, this is the RIAA; they do not let such things as facts and logic get in their way.

    For how long has this kind of attack been promised? Now that it seems to be happening, what kind of reprocussions can we expect? Will the US or UN intervene, since (at least from my POV) this is an act of war? Then again, are these government-sponsored script kiddies, or are they doing it of their own volition? IANA diplomat, but this is obviously a serious violation of something, and if it's not, then there might be an agreement regulating such warfare, an electronic Geneva Convention.

    Of course, forget all of those important questions: the one true question to ask on /. is "Do they see that Windows sux0rs now?"

    This company's infrastructure is (going to be) made up of many different types of systems and platforms, each interoperating.

    This is a win for everybody---well, except for HP-UX, which they're dropping.

    The point is, each different type of system has filled an important niche. Linux for the thin client front-ends and the financial database, Solaris for the web server and for scalability, and Win?? for "the simple stuff." (Can you say "role reversal?")

    Well, some of those specifics are off, as I need sleep. But I think I conveyed my general point here.

    Duuuude... it's symbiosis... so beautiful, man...

    sell driving lesson school for people who are afraid to parallel park on driving test. with the promise they can use car on the test.

    In some states, it is no longer a requirement to know how to parallel park in order to get a license. Therefore, even though I've been driving for two years, I still can't parallel park.

    Sad but true.

    Remember, this is the same crowd that will build antennae out of Pringles cans and will try to put Linux on every conceivable device with a microprocessor. We're geeks; it's because we can, and we'll do it with geek style while we're at it.

    The whole notion of skill and intelligence was propagated by the aristocrats in the 17th and 18th century to maintain a classist system where they benefitted.

    A lot of my philosophical beliefs are still stuck in those centuries. I still believed in a deterministic universe up until two years ago. Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle to this day doesn't sit very well with me. I understand it well, but I don't fully believe it.

    OK, then let us drop the "with" part. What can we do for them?

    If it wasn't clear in what I wrote, then it was clear in my head: murder and incarceration were out of the question, as was judging by race, religion, nationality, etc.

    This was one of those "If I were in charge" deals. This is also why I'm not, nor should I ever be, in charge of anything of importance. I'd end up being a benevolent dictator, but a dictator still.
