extending and strengthening copyright terms has little effect on actual innovation
but how do you measure innovation? you can't just say that so many more CD's were sold or so many more compositions were written. The statistics are there but I believe that they don't prove the hypothesis.

I used that book plus the Java in a Nutshell and together they make a good combination.
The Cookbook is not really an "introductory" book per-se but it still helps out while the Java in a Nutshell is more of the generic intro to Java book.

The TabletPC is a stripped down version of an entry level laptop that also costs several hundreds more.
There is nothing wrong with the concept of TabletPCs but untill they are priced accordingly they will not sell.
I for one, is in the market for a laptop so I could bring it to my classes. I was highly considering the TabletPC but for an entry level (800mghz, 256 MB RAM, 8MB Video Card, WiFi) I could get a top of the line Sager Notebook (3 GHZ, etc...).
Just because Microsoft created the TabletPC does not mean that it needs Linux as the competition. The TabletPC will fail without Linux's help because there is a very small niche for the product.
Again, they are only outsourcing the call centers and other jobs for which no skill is required. I mean does it really matter that people will now call India for their first tier support.
And if that is your job market them I'm sorry, but you should have learned more skills while you were back in college.
just my $.02
SCOX stock is down 12% as of right now... I think we need to short it and then reinvest it into Open Source Now. Now thats a business plan!
Now all the need is a chat bot, like SmarterChild on AOL AIM, and I am set making my $1000/hr.
This is where I disagree with the author.
one must assume that the sheer numbers involved evens out the effects of differing quality
He is where his logic is flawed, because quality and quantity are not in any way related.

The Java Cookbook is the way to go for beginners.

Hopefully they get it right this time around, cause we don't have the extra $$$ to waste on NASA.
