    The existens dual problems was already known (discovered by von Neumann). And the dual to a LP is just another LP. So I'm not suprised that von Neumann could derive the dual solution rather quickly.

    IIRC it is ok to create programs that generates .SWFs but you are not allowed to create programs that can display .SWFs (such as a browser plug-in).

    Never ever is a long time... To quote from the excellent book (I just started reading) Artificial Intelligence: A modern approach

    Even if we grant that computers have limitations on what they can prove, there is no evidence that humans are immune from those limitations. It is all too easy to show rigorously that a formal system cannot do X, and then claim that humans can do X using their own informal method, without giving evidence for this claim.

    You can insist as much as you like. But while talking about sweden you will not be correct.

    If a minister said something like "Put the heat on tax evasion or I'll kick you out of office, Chief." he would not be a minister for long if it reached the media.

    Well, the point I was trying to make is that it doesn't matter if Bodström says that enforcing the new law will not be a priority area for the police. He does not have the authority to decide what should be a priority for the police.

    It wasn't my intention to say that no one controls the police.

    The chairman of the swedish justice commitee does not agree with you. If you can read swedish, this might be interesting: Bodström anklagas för att utöva ministerstyre.

    What he says in the article is (my translation): "It is not part of Bodstöm's duties to decide how the police should uphold the laws he is responsible for."

    (Maybe someone who is better in political/legal english can explain this better than me. I'm really at the limit of my english skills here.)

    It is not his job to decide what should be a priority for the police and what should not. That is for the police to decide. It is even illegal for him to try to control the police.

    I need a project for my advanced functional programming course. (We are supposed to create an domain specific embedded language for Haskell and program something "usefull" in it.) I was thinking about creating an language to write IRC-bots in but maybe I'll create a squirrel programming language instead. Then it would be simple to test some different tactics.

    Not trying to be an ass here, but why do people always say this. Isn't the site most likley to be slashdotted when the story is new. Or should the server some how manage very heavy load and then get tired? I don't get the logic behind the "Slashdotted Already".

    *flashback to 1993* To set that highly desired 320x249 modeX resolution all you have to do is to kiss the timer on graphics card very gently, run around your keyboad anticlockwise screaming "GIME LABBA LABBA" really loud while covering your ears and nose. All in a candle lit room while not getting laid.

    I really miss those days...

    Another example: next major internation sporting event, compare the relative representation of the various races in the finals of the 100m sprint. Now do it again in the swimming.

    To be a good swimmer you need a swimming pool. And I'm sorry to say that it is the the white people who have to money to build pools. You don't need a lot of money to run. I think that's why there are more white tennis players, swimmers, golf players etc.
