Eidos is no big loss at all, Really what have they created for the GameCube that has been worth wild?
The Italian Job (nope)
Hitman 2: Silent Assassin (nope, Uber late)
Swingerz Golf (nope)
TimeSplitters 2 (okay this one was good!)
Blood Omen 2 (nope, Uber late too)
every time they release a hit game for the Cube its months late.
The only game that I'm looking forward to by them is Deus Ex 2 and I'm getting that for my PC not for any console.
The way I see it, this is just one less crappy company making bad games for the GameCube. I was not sad to see Acclaim leave, and I'm not sad to see Eidos leave.
Maybe Eidos's best bet would be to leave the console market all together and just do PC games. It seems like thats the only thing they are some what good at.
I'm not saying its never going to happen and that its not the future I'm saying that their jumping the gun and saying the future is now when Online console gaming isn't really going to start being big until at least the next console or as soon as faster internet connections are more common.
I'm actually a big PC online gamer, but as it is I've only played 2 games online with my console.
my statistics came from:
eWeek
InfoWorld
Just a Internet Minute Newsletter
GameInformer
Yahoo
and
Nintendo
Maybe you should go check out the stats first before assuming someone is pulling the info out of their ass.
It makes no scenes to make up info if someone can prove you wrong and make you look like a dumb ass.
If my info was incorrect I have the sources I can blame for being mislead.
The reason I didn't attack PS2 or GameCube is because I don't come across much info using them as examples its always Microsoft and the Xbox. I have nothing agents Microsoft or their console, they are just the ones who are always in the spotlight when it comes to online console gaming.
and sorry for any spelling errors, I'm not the greatest speller and some times I retype stuff after running it threw spellcheck and forget to recheck.
Why Play strait Halo 2 on Xbox Live when you can be playing Halo w/ mods and custom levels on your PC with no Xbox Live fee?
But you are right you'll probly get users who will take advantage of the 2 months free just to play Halo 2 and then drop it once they start charging you.
the problem with Online gaming is people want in but they don't want to pay for it.
Truthfully I could care less about Online games on a console. And I feel Nintendo is taking the right stand with Online games with this gen of Consoles.
Only 9% of Internet traffic is due to Online gaming, that includes Console and Computers and out of that 9% only 8% is Console games the other 92% is Computer.
So You only have a really small group of people who want online games that make allot of noise about it.
MS Loses 100s of Millions of dollars on Xbox Line each quarter. Online gaming makes 0 money back. And out of all the Xbox owners out there only 10% actually have Xbox Live. Kind of sad when you think about it, especially when this is suppose to be your selling feature.
Online games just isn't a money makeing factor in this generation, maybe next gen when more users have Cable or better.
oh and just another tidbit to toss in less the 24% of people online actually have cable or better. So 76% has AOL, Earthlink, NetZero, MSN or any other 56K phone-line provider.
Nintendo has gone up agenst; Atari Lynx, Sega GameGear, Sega Nomad, Neo-Geo Pocket, Wonder Swan, Wonder Swan Crystal, Wonder Swan Color, Turbo Express, Game.com, and Tiger Handhelds Games. and is still #1 And they were all much better products then the N-Gage too (during the time).
Heres something I did this Just for fun, For $300 the price of an N-Gage (without any games, or Celphone activation, or monthly Celphone fee or anything else I'm going to need to buy in order to uses this piece of junk) I can get
GBA SP ($100)
Celphone ($50 "Nokia 2000 min Prepaid Celphone")
MP3 Player ($100)
Sonic Advances and Super Monkey Ball ($50)
I think I'll stick to the GBA and a normal Celphone and MP3 Player.
I've also had problems with the Freeloader loading with some games. My copy of Luigi's Mansion was also in black & white and Zelda didn't load. There where a few other game I had that also didn't load but I'm spacing on them right now.
I think the blame here should be placed on the Freeloader and Not Nintendo. Think about it if they wanted to block people from importing games don't you think they would have made it allot harder to mod your Cube? its only 4 wires and a switch to mod it.
I also personally recommend just modding your Cube its not that hard and it only costs like $8.00 to do it ($5.00 for the screw driver bit)
We're just in a bit of a Dry spell right now, Truthfully how many games came out in the last few months that were good?
I've only picked up 4 New games in the last few months, and I've actually have started to go out and buy games that I passed on earlier because nothing good has come out. We've been getting alot of crap lately.
Once the holiday season comes around and all the great Titles start coming out things will pick up again.
We're just in a bit of a dry spell.
But lets just hope we're not seeing the slow decline in the game industry again.
I agree also Jet Set Radio Future, Toejam and Earl 3, Crazy Taxi 3, Panzer Dragoon Orta and Shenmue II would have all done better on PS2 and GameCube.
Sega just weren't looking at the target audiences when placing games on the Xbox. House of the Dead 3 was perfect for the Xbox but so far nothing else is. Sega really doesn't have the correct library of games for the Xbox. They were trying to be equal to all the consoles but wound up killing some of their series in the process.
If Sega was smart and actually don't want the Shenmue series (and other series) to Die they should really think about releasing them all console. I think sales for Shenmue II on PS2 and GameCube would be huge! and would do allot better on them.
If Sega is planing to make Sonic all platform (which I still fear only bad things can come from this) they should make all their series all platform. Or at-least re-look at series that have failed on One console (Xbox) and see if it could succeed on another.
One other thing... WHERE THE HELL IS MY NiGHTS GAME?
Okay everyone seems to think that if this is true (which I still highly dough) Sony would just turn their back on Rockstar and stop supporting them. This is very stupid, the last thing Sony would do is turn their back on the company that has made the PS2 such a hit.
Most likely what would happen is that Sony would sue Rockstar's ass to hell and back for this very stupid move, and then buy the company up and make all Rockstar games Playstation Only.
Sony will not just sit back and let their #1 title go over to another console. And if this is ture, watch Vice City not come out for Xbox and Sony announce the buy out of Rockstar.

Seems a bit pricey to me, the adaptors alone for the PS2 and GameCube are like under $40 and a 4 hub is like only $35
A Japanese Cube with American games and a American Cube with Japanese games. Yes I own two Cubes one in my room and one in my living room.
