After reading this and other articles I think that Debian is indeed in the correct legal position here. I don't happen to use Debian, but I might switch.
What I just did though was send a message to legal@redhat.com letting them know that if they continue to distribute in violation of the GPL they could lose my support.
If you believe in this issue then speak up and let your voice be heard. Let your distribution know that the GPL is important to you.
The Homefair cost of living thing is way screwed up. I just tried it comparing Vancouver and San Jose (a frind of mine is moving there). It claims that San Jose is 9% higher cost of living then Vancouver.
I am paying 1400 CAN$ for a 5 Bedroom Semi-detached in Vancouver, my friend is paying 1200 US$ for an 800 sq ft apartment in San Jose.
I am using a module for the ROXEN web server called IMHO (Internet Mail HOst). Just started trying it. It works well to access IMAP mail boxes over a web interface.
The only disadvantage is that you have to be using Roxen since it is written in RXML, but some may not consider that a disadvantage.
BTW I am using it with FreeBSD, but it will work with Linux too.
Try connecting with a VPN using some serious encryption. The CPU overhead for the encryption algorithms will slow eveything to a crawl. This is where the high MHz is very nice for a personal laptop (not that we can get a 1GHz laptop yet, but soon)
Actually I really like the new interface. I think this is one of the improvements of Mozilla.
Fortunately since it is themeable their will be much choice and you will have several interfaces to choose from. I think there is about 6 or 7 on the mozilla site now -- including one that makes mozilla look like IE (THE HORROR -- THE HORROR
So far I have been using it on Windows NT for about an hour with no crashes and no Dr. Watsons. I have been to about 7 sites with only the one homepage talked about above having problems with drawing the tables (I think the order in which he draws the tables is the problem their). I would say it is very usable. My only problem has been that it seems to keep losing my slashdot preferences! And the preview for this comment showed me that it was not accepting my paragraphs and running everything together. It is coming along.
Actually I believe there is a review going on about the.ca domain names and it is very likely that they will no longer be free. They are talking about a $10-20 Canadian Fee
I am getting really sick and tired of people complaing about the cost of RedHat. The cost is a reflection of the Support that comes with the product. If you have already purchased a previous version you should not really need the support so don't pay for it.
Remember RedHat is giving their product away for free -- they have to it is required by the GPL. Would any other "corporation" do that with their product.
If you don't have the bandwidth to dowload it then just order it from some company like CheapBytes. I believe I paid $1.98 for my copy of RedHat 6.0 (although in Canadian $ that became quite expensive;).

Solaris doesn't ship with GPL'd software, you have to download it seperately.
.Z format and you need it to install all the other GNU Utils.
The first thing I do when I get a Solaris box is download gzip, because it comes in

That is not 9%

What do I place more faith in a rumour started on zdnet or the fact that everything that redhat has released has always been under the GPL.
I know what I would believe -- you can decide for yourself

With Opera if you buy Version 3.x you are entitled to any version of 3.x that comes out. I assume that the same will be true of version 4.x.
So you get some upgrades for free, but not forever.
