  1. Re:Let it die on NASA to Reconsider Hubble Decision · · Score: 1

Agreed, I would be comfortable and much more in favor of letting Hubble die so long as there is a guarantee that we WILL put something up on the moon that will continue to give us images from space. Instead of looking backward, why not look forward? It's about time we do something again on the moon (it would shut the hell up of the conspiracy theorists, would offer us a better look at something other than the shuttle in a search for designs - or we could always go back to the old Apollo style missions with a big rocket can).

Personally, I think a moon base is more of a waste of money, but having a small base to maintain a telescope there would be satisfactory. We should probably stop thinking about putting stuff close to earth and instead look at ways to put stuff farther away from earth while making them able to last longer. The farther you get away from home, the more you'll learn.

Is it possible to get one of the orbiters to take an overhead picture of the rovers, just to see what the enviroment they're in looks like? Or is the atmosphere too thick for that? Was curious, would look up info, but its Friday and I'm brain dead already...

That's a great idea! I also like the idea of giving control of it to Universities or just selling the thing to other countries. Problem is, how do we get these ideas into actions?

is it just me, or is nowhere in the article did it say that they were going to take down http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com? From the C|NET article, "Although Toulouse was mum on the specific steps the software giant is taking to prepare for the attack, Microsoft is advertising alternative ways to get downloads and information from its site. The company has put more than 10 links on its main Web site to send people to more information and alternative channels for downloading updates." Also, near the end of the article: ""I doubt Windows Update will go down," Maiffret said. "They have a big network, and it's very distributed."" Nowhere did I see anything about shutting down windowsupdate.com.. ?? And I'm at the site now, and it appears to be working fine. Did I miss anything?

we didn't have the Code Red and this thing released at the same time *shudder* imagine what would happen if this guy(s) (or girls) seriously wanted to take the internet down instead of putting up little messages like "love you sans" [in reference to the internet storm center sans.org site??] in their code. people could seriously take down stuff if they wanted to.. makes patching all the more imporant. (esp. with xp being rolled out on all new computers now from stores).

(use "netstat" in the command prompt if you're unsure about things.. if you get hit with alot of "epmap"s .. thats prolly it. ctrl+alt+delete and take a look for the "msblast.exe" program.)
