Or using Evince which comes with your Gnome desktop. Also the question seemed to be talking about some sort of streaming over several sites which is kind of silly; the best way to do it is share audio (ekiga (comes with gnome), teamspeak etc) and send out a set of slides. You can do some of the fancy boardroom style things that Windows users have but in reality your IT department will hate you for it and they are just to much hassle for short talks.

  2. A question to Americans on Was the 2004 Election Stolen? · · Score: 1

I notice this about America. They don't seem to care about the information if the source can be discredited...

Take for example Michael Moore - now I don't live in America so I cannot comment if he is indeed accurate or not - who every few years comes out with some thing which to the average viewer/reader (eg me) appears to be well researched and portrayed yet due to the simple reply by those who dislike his work of "But it was made by Michael Moore" instantly drops it out of concern. Personally in my country if even a few of the claims made in any of the documentaries had been suggested about our government/way of life there would be a huge group of people calling for action and some thing would most likely be done about it. For example the health system in my state seems to be breaking at sides with corruption; the people who brought it to light were completely destroyed publicly by the system and the state government though the general population caught on and now there are inquiries every where and the state government are under huge pressure to fix it. So why do Americans dismiss it without second thought as the bias is blatant (and you are clearly able to see his bias, it is not hidden) and the facts appear supported and open?

This is more of a general question on the topic though Michael Moore is the best example of what I'm trying to ask that I know of, feel free to ignore him completely in any answers.

Sorry for being off topic though if you want to be funny you should post as your real user and not AC unless it is part of the joke (ie you are pretending to be a /. admin making a request). If I have some thing to say I'll say it and let my karma pay for it, at the moment it is sitting at excellent so I know it can stand a few beatings. So if people aren't really adding to the general discussions and not accruing karma then I'm really of the opinion that they shouldn't be allowed to comment as AC. Though please note this isn't a rant to destroy AC as I've seen it used well so often it is a valuable part of the system and yes I know I can filter ACs.

Slashdot and Digg are in a competition now? To be completely blunt I would consider them to be catering to completely different audiences who are interested in two different fields of computing where the only demographic that crosses over are the causal users. Slashdot has the more computer savvy groups and Digg has the gamer and script kiddie groups. Timing for articles can be considered a problem on /. for example a massive tsunami that killed over half a million in thirty minutes on boxing day two years ago took weeks to get a minor mention whereas Steve Erwin's death was up before most Australians knew about it. Then again it is the price we pay for having an editor based system and in one hand we can yell at them for prioritising the news and in the other we can yell at them for posting crap. Or we can ignore both hands as long as it is generally good and let them be.

To be totally honest I'm still going to folk out the extra money even though it will require some extra budgeting. It will be about 350$(AUD) in my country as the straight conversion is 331$ and they'll round up. So with an extra controller and Zelda I'll be looking at about $450 up front. Then over the next six months or so I'll probably be getting another two controllers and Sonic (which I will happy do most things for, I want new sonic pumped into my veins!) plus some more games when I can afford it. Prices rise and those are the breaks I guess...If the value is there Nintendo will continue to get my limited custom, which I guess is a win for them as I'm one of the large percentage that can't afford/doesn't want more than one console and has long since stopped buying N64 products.

As a long time user of Mandrake till about two years ago I'd like to ask a very simple question; what is its place in todays modern Linux desktop world?

This isn't a troll or a flame as I enjoyed using MDK back in the day though really it is still as bloated and confusing as when I used to use it (I've played with the latest version extensively). Ubuntu and Novell SLED seem to serve the purpose that Mandrake used to fill far more effectively and I can't help but think that those still working on the free parts of Mandrake are wasting resources that could be more effectively used to help other areas in more up to date (philosophy wise) distros...Like decent GUI tools for wireless networking!

Note Gnome had perms and the ability to add to the menus beforehand, just no where near as easily/well. Out side of the childish flame wars between kde and gnome the devs and community are getting on with life and taking features off each other while implementing new ones independently. Also moving into line with freedesktops specs. I think this is great for Linux desktop interoperability and really does allow people to use what they want with little hassle and not missing the features and functionality they really need.

For the record I use Gnome, Enligthenment (DR17), and Blackbox and I refuse to even touch the peice of bloated crap that is KDE. :)

Why not get the 10-15 people on the server with you to meet up and do this IRL? It's far more fun! And if you haven't informed the local police of what the hell you're upto you may even be arrested!

This is hardly unique. Chicken chases (or chase the chicken) games go on regularly in rovers (see scouting) in Australia and many other groups also play similar games and have done since I was a child (at least fifteen years ago when I was five :P). The rules are slightly different but the concept is the same...Some one dressed as a chicken runs from a group chasing and those after it can use any means possible to track it down including feather trails, asking the people about, and getting the police to assist them. These chases are usually done in highly populated areas for extra laughs.

Trust is a big part of EVE and it is very hard to earn considering most peoples introduction to the game goes some thing like this: work work work, o0o0o new ship, ship gets blown up, life sucks, work work work, o0o0o new ship, ship gets blown up, life sucks, work work work, o0o0o new ship, ship gets blown up. This continue until finally you can start to hold your own against other in game players who are out to get you - pirates - and/or you join up with others in corporations where every one is equal in there want to survive and their love for their shiny ship not to get blown up. This environment creates a reasonable amount of trust in those you are allied with. Outside of that there are constructs like reputation which go along way, just look at the ISS - they are practically safe in the game as every one respects their wish to be neutral and they haven't stuffed people over. So even without contracts and the like (to which there are some forms, though they aren't overly enforceable outside of other in game dynamics) the game manages to continue and push into all areas. And it should keep going nicely as I know, from highschool accounting, the world worked before formal legal contracts.
