my wife and i purchased a honda civic hybrid. we considered the insight, but use it for extended road trips so the civic was more practical, though slighly worse on the milage. our experience has been great so far--including a 3500 mile road trip for about $125 in gas.
the milage is around 45/55 depending on conditions
size/drive is identical to the regular civic
it costs ~ u$19,000, but you get a u$2,000 tax deduction
oil changes are a little more ($40) as it uses 0/20 oil, but if you use the dealer, we get an extra 2 year warranty.
it is quiet
it uses a CVT so it is an incredibly smooth drive
pleanty of power of detroit[read:insane] driving from an 84in3 4cyl.
it's not just your dad. it's also my wife. and some of my friends. some of whom have even taken a basic computer class.
the real problem seems to be that suddenly there is something that the mass public is interested in, but the UI design has always expected a certain level of knowledge. this knowledge--right-click on that, open this, goto some address--is required, but people expect to be able to jump right in and enjoy it just like TV or VCRs.
i can't wait to see this. it reminds me of the feel of the first mac comercials--not that it's all that similar, but promoting "sharing data as the first step to community."
ironic considering the target of those first mac commercials
i believe when the national list was first offered they said that the initial signUps would begin to see the effect in october. the main problem will be all of the exempt agencies.
i gave up my landLine a couple of years ago--screw sbc, but that's another story--and recently have started getting telemarketers calling me on my cell. still not too many and they usually hang up when i tell them it's a cell.
it's more fun, though, to wait for them to inform you that the call may be recorded for qa and freak out about it;)
first there's an article touting the benefits of COM+--i disagree, but it's your opinion--then, when i go to read it, there's a windows server 2003 ad at the top of the screen
I have always admired Microsoft's COM architecture
untill you spend a day rebuilding DLLs because one class ID at the bottom of your architechure got f??ked up.......without a makefile!

things get bigger and more complex and so do the development environments. the big get bigger in this scenerio--for a while. there's almost always a new development--ie *nix--to bring things back to earth. in the end a good idea can overcome the cost of easy development.
i know at my school, not only is everything run on windows, whereas there used to be several HPUX boxes, but also anyone who takes the.NET classes gets a copy of visual studio.
this is par for the course from the company who bundled free browsers and cd recorders in their bloated overpriced OS.
Any respectable Slashdotter would have an Ethernet port installed

it's nice to see this was upgraded to rj45
will it come as a spunky .96m droid that serves drinks, and shorts messages out if a restraining bolt is attached?

so now i have to run upstairs, strip down to a swimsuit, jump in the pool and get the headgear on all in the 4 rings before it goes to voicemail?
the m$ patch story count is catching up with the sco story count.

if you don't like the laws of a society, you have 3 choices
- change the law
- leave the society
- deal with it
breaking the law you don't agree with, but benefiting from the society isn't an optionthat said, i break a few of the laws of the society from which i benefit. sorry.
wow, it's 4:30. i'd almost given up on my daily SCO story.
