    Not to mention if you have any files of a less than 100% above the board nature, the MPAA/RIAA and a subpoena may start poking around in the PlexAzon caches to see what needs a closer look. No thanks.

    You're going to have that problem no matter what storage solution you go with, so tread lightly.

    Not much USB-C usage in what I've been using these days, save for a recent model Western Digital portable external hard drive in which USB-C is being used for both data transfer and power. USB-C, as far as I'm concerned, is a forgotten and forlorn standard.

    What kinda' TV do you have that sounds so bad? Not sure if the new Apple TV has this feature, but there's a new version of Chromecast that's meant to be plugged into your stereo.

    Ugh! You must be living on a farm or somewhere out in the boonies, and I say that because T-Mobile is REALLY trying to expand its 4G coverage area from what I've been seeing in the advertising. Don't ask me how they're doing it without the help of AT&T though.

    One interesting option would be for Netflix customers to indicate their flight number and select things to be cached before boarding, while the plane is at the gate).

    Don't know of many video streaming apps that let you do this, but there's a bunch of music apps that do. Spotify is probably the best of the bunch. Just turn your chosen playlists' downloading feature on, and you're all set! Podcast apps let you do this kinda' thing too.

    If you look at Chromecast, the vast majority of silent upgrades went smoothly.

    Well then, let's hope that TPLink is willing to have a pow-wow with the Chromecast team when something goes wrong with this thing.

    Watching video is also much better on a tablet. Easier on the eyeballs, for sure. A tablet is also a must if you're going to work on documents of any kind. Too bad that the Google Play Store doesn't make QuickOffice available for tablets.

    That's great! Especially since most office jobs involve sitting, and standing at your computer to type or enter data would REALLY cut down your WPM quite a bit.

    First of all, why didn't they include the ability to read or send messages to/from accounts other than Gmail, like Gmail currently lets you do now? Second, how is Inbox able to fill in blank avatars from business email addresses with company logos? Is it getting help from Chrome or something? Nice feature though, just wonder how it works.

    You got that one right, Not to mention the fact that there are quite a few apps in the store that are intended for use on a mobile phone and still end up in the Windows 8/8.1 inventory anyway. That kind of thing is excusable in Google Play market, but most certainly not here.

    Let's not forget two other nice news aggregators. There's the venerable Flipboard, and a newcomer called Circa. Flipboard draws from all internet news sources including RSS.

    MATE is a simple, neat destop that ... "just works". I'm just old fashoined and don't need a fancy UI.

    Using Xubuntu here for that same reason. Not to mention the fact that I have a lesser machine (an eMachines EL1358G) with not quite enough RAM to run full-on Ubuntu. Canonical seems to have done some nice things with its spin of XFCE used here.

    Yup, most certainly looks like video game systems of the future will somehow have to battle 'Roku syndrome' as a result of manufacturers thinking they can put everything but the kitchen sink into these so called gaming systems, not that it matters me much.

    Windows RT, Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 don't have much in the way of Google apps currently (except for Chrome and that God-awful search app), so in terms of shielding yourself from Google's nastiness, you're good to go.

    AFAIK, Windows 8 is Windows 7 with the Start button ripped out of it and replaced by the Start screen, which after you've gotten acquainted with it, is pretty darn easy to work with. Launching desktop apps from there seems kinda pointless though. Hope this issue is resolved in Windows 8.1.

    What's taking them so long to offer up a Metro style version of Chrome? Fear of cannibalizing laptops running ChromeOS is a lame excuse, and as nice as Google's current Metro style app is, it's just a mini browser on crack and steroids.

    The Ouya does that better at lower cost, no soft-mod required.

    Not to mention the availability of non-game apps on the device. Does TuneIn ring a bell? Not sure if the Ouya has the right video innards, but it could probably run Netflix or Hulu and become yet another Roku competitor.

    Roku units are god-awful for playback of local content.

    I'm running Plex on mine, which seems to work well. Gotta set the server up on a pc, but it seems pretty low impact.

    Twonky is better for that kinda' thing. Just sayin'.

    According to Wired.com "[I]f you’re running it in a browser, Amazon Instant video, Hulu, Rdio, and HBO Go all just work. As did video from Wired, Gawker media, and Flickr slideshows." I have a Roku and love it, but I also have Comcast. That means, in its infinite retardery, I can not watch HBO Go on my Roku. If this really does work as well as Wired says it does, I can watch it through the Chromecast Chrome browser, making my Roku a paperweight.

    Roku only makes sense if you're a Time Warner Cable customer and you buy one the nicest Roku models, which of course makes holding onto your first-gen/second-gen Roku (for who knows how long) a no-no becuase these don't support Time Warner Cable's app. Having a Roku is a must in most newer Time Warner Cable markets (such as Louisville KY, where I live) because the ability to offer more HD channels than what you'd get through the cable box.
