I'm hoping you got your figures backwards. By your example, GTA4 would cost $1,404.48 USD. If you got them backwards it would only be $113.35 USD, still very high but not insanely high.
I don't know, if I were just about to graduate I'd probably be willing to take just about any job I could in this economy... Worst case scenario is you hate it and start looking for another job while still employed (and making money).
So you're ok with people having to pay $1200/song if they got caught downloading? You don't have a problem with the DOJ supporting overly harsh punishment?
While I agree with you on principle.. make every person responsible for their own actions.. that isn't how our society is any more. The lawyers run this country, do you think they would create laws that limit the lawsuits that can be created? If everyone took responsibility for their own actions, most lawyers would be out of jobs.
I think the key to something like this is growing the food near the demand for the food. Cutting unnecessary transportation costs/fuel consumption getting the produce to the market. What if each borough of NY had a 20 story vertical farm (with ground floor being the food market)..
Growing produce like that I think would be economically viable. Producing corn and soybeans, you are right, that should remain in the hands of the commercial farmer.
We have a produce farm just outside of town here, a good portion of the work that is done is by hand (I made $10/hr the summer between my sophomore and junior year in high school ). Machines just aren't good at picking stuff like tomatoes, green beans, peppers without destroying the plant and hampering any additional harvest a week later.
The biggest problem with a skyscraper would be the sunlight. Maybe a combo of solar energy and wind energy would be enough to power the growing lights. You could collect rain water run-off to off set the cost of watering. I think labor costs would probably be about the same. Unlike most parts of the country, you could grow crops year round.
Not saying the middle of Manhattan is the best spot, but having one of these near every metropolis could be beneficial.
Well Obama has proven so far that he was full of hot air, so he can disagree with me all he wants, I won't trust him until he actually does something good.
If you swing OH, PA and FL to the Republicans it becomes a very tight race again. Those are the 3 states every election that could vote either way. Very few states consistantly have close races. I bet I could correctly guess Red or Blue state for the 2012 election for 40 of the 50 states... right now.
How do the EC votes matter any more? There are really just a few swing states left.. OH, PA, and FL are the three that make a difference. I live in Ohio and I'm proud that our overall population is diverse enough that we can vote either way.. but you're basically putting every federal election into the hands of 3 states now.
It never made much sense to me that 45% of California residents could vote for a Republican but all their votes go to the Democrat (same thing for Texas, so it sort of evens out in that way). For the most part candidates ignore the states that are considered a safe victory or unobtainable. If it were me I'd feel that my vote didn't matter if the candidate couldn't come here.... but I guess since the majority of the sheeple in this country are set in their ways it wouldn't do much good.
I take it you don't live in a cold weather climate or in a large city. Snow/ice + salt + plows = pot holes. Large cities have notoriously bad roads, it's too hard to repair them with so much traffic.
And it's not just bumpy roads that shocks help with. Every time you turn a corner the shocks are used to keep the car stable.
Personally, I think it's a brilliant idea. The easiest way to become more efficient is to turn the wasted energy into something useful.
Does Opera and Mozilla want a settlement from Microsoft? Do they want their browsers pre-installed with IE or IE completely removed?
An OS without a browser.. the people who didn't know about choices in their browser are going to be the same people who can't figure out how to put a browser on the computer to begin with.
What makes it bad is that ESPN360 is the only way to view actual sporting contests.. I would love to check out criquet because I've never seen it played, or watch a little rugby.. some of the less popular sports. ESPN:sports as MTV:music videos.
It would be a good service if I could use it (I get my cable through Time Warner.. and they are horrible at implementing new stations/services)...
a renewed focus on alternate energies..and not just on a specific ideology regarding alternate energies, but a focus on a broad swath of alternative energies
I find this funny because 2 days ago I saw his "clean coal" ad on tv that ran during the election. Promoting clean coal seems like a step backwards.. or a lie to get more votes.
An article on/. a day or two ago pointed out how the US is now leading the world in power generated by the wind, sure it's not as impressive if you use per capita but the fact that it had grown 50% since 2007 tells me we were already on the right path prior to Obama taking over.
I'm surprised I haven't seen it yet.. but why not go after the parents of the kids who uploaded the video? Or better yet, go after the owner of the computer where the video was uploaded... and the manufacturer of the camera...
Were the kids' themselves brought in for questioning? I didn't RTFA.
If Canada was just as spread out (or more spread out) than the US, population wise, most Canadians wouldn't live within 50 miles of the US border.
I'm not using that as a reason why the US broadband is so crappy.. hell, time warner just capped mine at 250kb/sec basically because they put too many homes on one line, and service is horrible. Of course service still sucks, now it just means anything I do download takes 3 times as long as normal when I let it run over night.
Why is it a bad idea? The people who wouldn't click on the link embedded in the email won't even bother reading the message. Those that typically fall for phishing attacks are the ones most likely to click on the link.. and maybe they'll learn a lesson.
I think the "solution" is so simple that it might just actually help. Even if it only educates 1% of the click throughs it has still made an impact. What's the best way to stop phishing? Make it not worth the while.

Who gets sued by the parents of a team that ODs?

Sigh, now I feel depressed.

What about just building more wind powered generators. I've heard those are bad for migratory birds.
Clean energy and less birds.. guess you could say that's killing two birds with one stone?
*ducks* (or should I say geese?)
Ok, I'm leaving now.
I also hate how stuff like this can be attached to a spending bill. There should be laws keeping these types of bills narrow in focus.
I'd love to become a senator. I wouldn't last long because I'd backhand the majority of them that pull this shit.
I, for one, welcome our corporate overlords...
:(
Most products are stolen or borrowed ideas (or slightly modified) anyway. It's not a Microsoft phenomenom.

I thought it was an obvious joke.. no need to get bent out of shape. Of COURSE it's a Republican conspiracy.
Anyone else become a bit itchy while reading the article?
Well, just playing the law of averages.. I'd be willing to guess this guy has some unpaid taxes!

Maybe no planet in our solar system would be an ideal "climate" for other advanced species and they've basically ignored us because of it.
