I too have been following the Skully and volunteered as a tester but was not selected. Do I think it's awesome? Heck yeah! But due to the steep price of this helmet and the shelf life of all motorcycle helmets at ~5 years, I'll be content with my Scorpion 1100 with Chatterbox X1 Slim as it does everything (protect the head and eyes, phone calls, bike-to-bike & bike-to-passenger VOX talk, turn-by-turn via smartphone, etc.) except the HUD and rear view camera and costs significantly less. And I can mount the Chatterbox to another helmet when this one is damaged or past it's shelf life.

I agree that getting the best gear for safety is great, but learning to ride defensively is the best.

I'd rather spend my money on learning to ride by going through an AMA backed MSF class. After taking the basic class, I realized how it made me a better driver in my car let alone on the bike. The intermediate and advanced classes just improved on that foundation.

For those that ask why I ride daily... the fact I can get 45-50 MPG mixed riding on a 1300CC sport bike and have more fun than the Prius driver is the main reason ;)

  3. Re:Sounds like a headache on US Contemplating 'Vehicle Miles Traveled' Tax · · Score: 1

Weight is already taken into account when you register and get a license plate from your state, as is the age of the vehicle, size of the engine, and other factors.

My 5 year old motorcycle costs as much to tag as my ten year old sports car, but the bike gets 50mpg highway and can still go 200+ (take that Prius!), and the impact is negligible compared to any four wheel vehicle, even a "smart" car. Only federal highway systems are eligible to get federal funding for road work, the state and local governments front the cost of the majority of infrastructure. Now, if you really wanted a high MPG car that beats the pants off of pretty much all hybrid and electric vehicles out there, the Ford Fiesta with its 65.5+ mpg engine would be the way to go, but alas it won't be sold here in the US

Anyways, this is nothing more than another attempt by Uncle Sam to grab at more money rather than trimming the fat in our government and cutting the costs of redundant and unnecessary departments.

The problem is that they're putting a lock on the item you purchased and then telling you can only use it the way they want you to use it. Think of it as those ATM commercials where you had to pay to get into your fridge for a piece of cheese (which you also owned) or some other common item at home. It's restrictive policies like this that makes the crowd here irate and up in arms. But also like the DVD's, they have the key, the lock and the media all wrapped up in something that you possess and with lots of time on your hands to pick the lock or make your own key. ;)

Google isn't the only topic on the plate here, afterall MS nearly gives the OS away to PC builders that build in mass (ie Dell, HP/Compaq, et al) in the anticipation of customers getting lockin of thier other products, most notably Office. With the OpenDocument battle and now advertisement and search battle against Google, this would be an opportune way for MS to push more of thier products and supplement it with other pre-installed software aside from the AOL/MSN signup links. They are trending more towards a subscription base for everything anyways, why bother making a quick $100.00 for a one time purchase every few years when you can milk the public for ~$15 a month (or $180 .00 a year) for a subscription (just look at WoW, EQ, Asherons call, SWG, etc.)? Supplement that with advertisement and you'll be making more with less distribution costs and rack in the dough even faster.

  14. Re:Thank God! on Creationist Textbook Stickers Declared Unconstitutional · · Score: 0, Flamebait

Just a few points about the prior posts:

    1) To consider that the Seperation of Church and State is a Constitutional fact is a huge mistake. Nowhere in the Constitution or any of it's 27 Ammendments does the proclimation of this Urban Myth hold true.

    Constitution: http://www.archives.gov/national_archives_experien ce/charters/constitution.html

    Bill of Rights: http://www.archives.gov/national_archives_experien ce/charters/bill_of_rights.html

    Ammendments 11-27: http://www.archives.gov/national_archives_experien ce/charters/constitution_amendments_11-27.html

It turns out the idea of Seperation of Church and State was from a simple corrispondence letter by Thomas Jefferson and the concerns that endorsing a particular sect of the Christian Church could cause problems, as most of the colonies were created for religious reasons and persecution from the then indocrination of the Catholic and Angilican (Church of England) churches.

    2) There's also some things to note about the different opinions of Evolution. Most will argue the micro/macro evolution chain (if a small change can happen in a short time then a large change can happen in a long time) is a logical fallacy. It has been observed that a species can make small genetic changes within the genome, but there is no conclusive evidence to support large inter-species changes (paradoxies like the chicken and the egg) make this quite a chore for even the best of debaters (master debators?!), the geological record shows large jumps between species, but no interum species. Most genetic changes that have been observed are usually fatal to the species in question or have a detrimental impact instead of a positive impact.

    3) Any religious ideology requires a faith element to it (takes just as much faith to believe there is no God as to believe that there is a God), and by definition faith cannot be scientifically analyzed, however science can assist in the proof (or disproof) of historical references for that said faith.

    http://dict.die.net/faith/

Keeping an open mind can be good, but too often it can be cluttered with inaccuricies and FUD, it's best to be skeptical with what you read/hear until you can cross-reference them with reliable sources.

The idea of taxing VoIP is whimsical at best and utterly moronic at worst. The ILEC's already have charges (which are taxed) for exchange services between local carriers, and unless you're exclusive making an IP to IP call, you are charged as well for the exchange, and reguardless of how you connect to the internet, you still pay a levy/tax for that connection (copper, fiber, radio, etc.)
This is nothing more than an attempt to regulate the 'net and to give more money to an already bloated government.

Although Zuggsoft's was a good client when I happened to use in on occasion (Back when Win 3.11 was still predominantly used on school computers), it just doesn't beat the speed of TinTin. On the other hand, I've heard that WinTin is a good Win32 client based on the TinTin code, though havn't used it myself, if it's anything like it's cousin, I'm sure it's a decent client (even if it is on a windoze platform). All in all, it depends on what kind of client you're looking for, something with lots of eye candy, use the windows ones, but for the pure speed and transparentness, use TinTin hands down.
