As Raul points out, the power of this architecture is its low power consumption. 80% of the market doesnt pay attention to such things. They want a fast chip that isnt even utilized (read intel) by the system. The only people who would be interested in purchasing this excellent piece of equiptment will be those who have half a clue (read me). Thanks to forums such as these (read/. (read forum for spinning computer halfwits (read me))), they are getting all the marketing they could ever desire (read free).
Interesting:
"Apart from the economic and social consequences, this phenomenon infringes on labour legislation, tax legislation, health legislation and the legislation on product safety."
Reminds me of the Nazis... the jews were infringing upon their free rights as well.
Now our side:
"under the proposed directive, EU Member States will have to criminalise street music"
This is already illegal:
"COTT is entitled under the Copyright Act to charge licensing fees for the public performance of its music repertoire by users. Further the charge is always against the promoter of the event or the proprietor of the premises accordingly." [COTT]
This article may seem to indicate that street bands will be prosecuted: only if the proprietor of the store is charging for playing. In Chicago, street musicians do not charge for their covers of other bands, they are given alms. The comments made on both sides are made to instill fear. Please dont get spun by/. or by the suits. Make your own mind up with research. (and no, i didnt mean to say make up your own mind.)

well, instead of being flamebait, why dont you be productive and support what you profess to enjoy by LINKING to sites that have content about/*clever homebuilt stuff, major releases of important software/hardware, new on privacy/legal matter in both the EU and the US, upcoming...*/
That is the power of this site, it gives the users the ability to link to sites they are interested in; so do it and stop bitching.
I also find it interesting that you refer to/. as a hype site, when it seems to me that it has quality content (too little of the quality homebuilt stuff, but what can ya do)
the FCC has been after phone phreaks and hackers for the past 15 years. They must keep to their word that FOR NOW users will be anonymously logged in (didnt say they would tell you if they would release a change of policy). However: the users are located within the FCC building, wherin router logs can be traced to find out exactly what each WiFi connection is doing. Once illegal activity is assured, they can simply log the wavelength of the user who sent those packets, do a scan of the building, and boom. Toast. This is not the FCC helping hackers, but bringing foolish hackers into a controlled location. Be like any other smart hacker and scan for open WiFi DoD buildings that are without a firewall and auto-log in (gotta love M$). Hellova lot easier.

The process of finding the "gem" in a pile of garbage is blatantly mis-interpreted. OCS has always been a merit-based system. When Linus Torvalds first began Linux, it was trash, but through the use of Open Content, he found a group of highly skilled individuals who would assist him. Only by their merits were they included, and only by the products' merits was it adopted. Finding the "gem" in the trash implies that the trash cannot be improved through the merits of the creators and the users. Also: the more merit a product has, in the closed or open sector, the more people will talk about it, thereby acquiring a larger user base to exhibit their merits. Bad content in programming is dropped in the open source field, unlike the closed (and more money and time is lost in the private: M$)
Dont mean to flame, but shit, people who know what is out there see crap, recognize it as crap, and either try to improve it, or tell the creator that it is, indeed, crap.
They continued to create cotton without slaves because it was still profitable. They werent doing it to make shirts. If there is no profit as incentive, no one will take the time to design anything (unless they need to 'scratch an itch', like with Linux). Its about time for some widespread chaos, it can be fun AND control the population.

A good suggestion, mayhaps they could have higher rates per "flow", the equivalent of having Purified water delivered to your house at premium prices, as opposed to simply Tap water? It sounds like a great idea, until you realize that your Premium Purified water is being drank by those damn neighborhood kids. These kids are the equivalent of Modem(56k) users. They will use the same backbones that your premium (T1+) connection will use to acquire its sites, thus drinking away your premium "water", which you are paying $.14/KB for. The problem with this mentality on the internet is simple: the internet is a shared user space, with free interdomain communication. It was a good idea, but who would pay for a water bill that only allowed one to take a shower between 9 and 12, and only hot water between 10:15 and 10:20.

The relation: Strategy. The RIAA has realized that most individuals over the age of 50 are ignorant of the filesharing ideology; we can relate that to a nice bunch of peasants. Now, how does one scare peasants? With a firestorm/blizzard combination. The Blizzard consists of subpoenas of, say, 600 people (probably college kids). Everyone saw this one coming, its an old strat. The parents' thought process went something along these lines, they are only targeting the big distributors, and my college student cannot be downloading that much music. Suddenly the RIAA comes out with the expansion pack and a firestorm insues. Now the parents can be sued, and they will be forced to check into their children's downloading habbits. The entire strategy is to exploit the peasants. All the peasants have to do is to realize that there are only 2 heros in this game, against alot more peasants. The peasants wont mine gold for either side if the combo is used. Because in real life, the peasants realize that they are the only ones who really get screwed.

This article mentions but does not extrapolate upon the lack of development in optical recognition algorithms. Optical recognition development can be judged by character recognition. The current algorithms utilize a finite set of data (there are a finite set of characters that any OCRs can recognize) to probablistically determine what a scanned character will be. The key word in that sentence is finite. There are infinite variations of objects in the real world, which cannot be determined through probabalistic interpretation.
