What should he do then? Ask for your name, but be forbidden to ask you to prove it?
If there's an investigation going on (say, a murder just happened and the killer ran), and you suddenly pop out and seem suspicious, the investigator will want to know who you are and be damn sure that you're not lying. It's entirely justified to ask for ID, right? So the problem is that a policeman shouldn't arbitrarily ask for ID's. Did the policeman arbitrarily ask for your ID? What was the reason? Was he just horsing around? Did you ask him?
Why would anyone stand mute when a police officer asks for a name? Either you say your name, or ask why (and ask for his ID at the same time).
I mean, to me it's perfectly reasonable that a police officer can ask anyone to present his/her ID during the course of an investigation, if it is a justifiable one. If the police officer makes up a bogus cause just to ask ID, then he's overstepping his authority.
Actually, I think it's more because no-one has bothered yet. Users who are incompatible with moving jumpers around are likely also incompatible with BIOS updates.
There's no penalty of you're the only one doing it. There is a penalty if everyone starts spelling differently, not to mention inconsistently. Tragedy of the commons.
(Modern) house-building is a well-insulated affair in all the Nordic countries, and it makes energy bills smaller in both winter and summer.
For those who remain sceptical (as in the story a few posts up): insulation keeps the inside temperature separate from the outside temperature. If it's nice and cool inside (with airconditioning), it stays nice and cool inside. And vice versa with nice and warm.
I guess the big point is: building a cheap and flimsy house will cost you a lot more in the long run than a well-built one that'll last a hundred years, it's just not worth it. Note also that well-built != expensive.
I played through HL2 with a Geforce 4200 Ti, and it looked nice for sure. My only gripe is that I can't play Riddick on anything other that the ultra-lowest settings.
Speaking of graphics cards, what's a reasonably nice card > 4200 Ti, that doesn't require massive cooling that pierces my eardrums?
Certainly! But my intention would be specifically not to have anything like this inside my computer. Instead I would have a separate computer somewhere on the LAN with a RAID array purely for backup. The RAID mirroring simply means than I wouldn't have to re-backup everything, if one HD crashed. That computer would not have to be kept on all the time either, or at least the HD's could be spun down most of the time.
What's much more dangerous..., is only having one logical copy in a RAID volume
Why is that? Obviously, mirroring is the first choice in a RAID setup (giving at least 2 physical copies), striping is just a bonus if you have the drives for it. I mean, this RAID is supposed to be for backups and storage, not high performance.

Ha, I'll bet no-one expected that one!
All foreigners are always dumb, both American foreigners, and foreign foreigners. Didn't you know?
And how do you define the Central Processing Unit, as opposed to External Devices? It's an old usage but not incorrect.

" ... if the fecal impaction is not removed, the colon may become overly dilated (megacolon) ...". I imagine it'd look something like this:
O

Kids raise themselves for the most part. Trying hard isn't going to change that.
Until you've committed yourself to clicking the link, received and RTFA, you don't know whether it's a negative review or not.
It's a trap!!

No, shochu, but they're similar.
Watch my unlikely prophecy come true!
That's how it is. Any prophecy of the stock market is self-fulfilling.
HTML entities are your friends in slashdot posts.
No, it's cheaper to use greyscale and a blue backlight.
I assume you will be concealing the weapon in your guitar case then?
Well, that's the catch. Here on slashdot one has to be an anti-fanboy fanboy.
I think you'll need at least an S3 ViRGE-class device to enjoy it.

Why don't you hate America? ;)
