Most often the way it works is: The physical hardware is yours, The software isn't. You just get a license to run the software. The license usually includes clauses specifically against reverse-engineering or circumnavigating any part of the software or its 'security measures'. Then they simply find a way to make it that you have to agree to be bound by the licence terms in order to use the product. or b) By even turning on the product, you automatically have signified your acceptance of being bound by the licence terms.
This sounds like bullcrap to me. No matter what some egoistic Americans may think, US law and US police have no jurisdiction in other countries, unless by special agreement.
I dont want to take anything away from the achievements of our soldiers, but why does the whole country make such a big deal about thanking/rewarding them individually when they are simply doing their jobs? I mean, they chose to be soldiers. If they dont want to be sent into wazones they shouldn't take the job.
No-one seems to be worried about rewarding the guys that, say drive garbage trucks, for example. And actually I'd guess their job conditions can be worse, and I'm personally more likely to feel the pain when they screw up than from some guy in Bumcrapistan.
This is exactly why we need to support and vote for Ron Paul. He's the only politician that stands against crap like this and will reduce the power of the Fed. Al the other candidates are just empty suits that will be the bitches of big corps, and who support SOPA and PIPA.
Given Ubisoft name has over the last few years become synonymous with the worst kind of f**k-the-user DRM, I'm amazed there's still enough (uninformed) people buying Ubisoft products to keep them in business.
It also amazes me how many companies will never admit they made a stupid decision and reverse it even if the decision ultimately makes their whole company fail.
That movie browser is totally unusable for browsing movies. It has no support for a folder hierarchy and it take the whole screen to only display 6 titles at a time. No thanks.
I have windows 7 and personally I still much prefer Linux. Mint to be exact (since Ubuntu sold the farm with unity). The only reason I keep Windows around is for gaming, as most games aren't available as Linux versions. If they were windows would go away from my PC entirely. To do anything serious its a no-brainer to use Linux as Its a way more powerful tool.
I'll bet that Microsoft already have realised that and already have a "working" solution (think x86 emulator + WINE-like layer) waiting in the wings so everyone can run (slowly) win86 binaries on ARM from day 1.
Microsoft will get dragged through the courts for anti-competitive behaviour once again. You'd think they'd have learnt their lesson from the whole IE bundling thing that cost them very serious money.
Even if the US gov is corrupt enough to let this slide, there's no way Microsoft will get away with this in the EU or anywhere else.
What is a windows device exactly? Microsoft marketing dept have invented this concept that Windows is somehow hardware. Its not. Windows is an OS. No more.
I buy computers (not Windows devices, or apple devices). I need them to do the things I want. Its my property. I can and should be able to do what I like with it.
Finally the manager in our IT dept will have to get a clue. I'm guessing he will do everything he can to hold off upgrading as he knows he wont be able to cut it. I'm actually hoping he will get moved out so we can finally move to Linux.
As we all know, the Nazis have a base on the dark side of the moon since the end of WW2. They used one of their UFO's to interfere with Phobos-Grunt, as they are scared of Russia confirming existence of their secret base when the probe passes by on its way to Mars. They're not worried about the US as a) The US already found out when Werner Von Braun joined the US "paperclip" project. b) With the demise of NASA's Apollo and space shuttle projects, the US no longer qualify as a space-capable government. The moon nazis are now however significantly worried about the British, specifically Richard Branson. Wait for all the mysterious UFO sightings and technical problems during the first flights of Whiteknight2/Spaceship2.
I can't understand why all the companies that Microsoft is blackmailing, especially Google, don't form a cohesive group to fight back. At least to finally oblige Microsoft to reveal the actual details of whatever their supposed Linux/Android copyrighht claim is.

I would NOT trust with my money, it would be Facebook.
Only when the last tree has been cut down,
the last river poisoned,
and the last fish been caught,
will people realise that they can't eat money.
18th century Cree Indian proverb.
Thats total bollocks.
You know not of which you speak sir.

Ironically, this kind of DRM makes me MORE likely to just get a pirate copy rather than buy it.

So you're going to leave your TV on all night just so you have an alarm clock display? Have you thought of the power consumption costs?
>> being able to text your car and get its location
My car never seems to go anywhere on its own.
Even if its purpose is only to rent movies, I still want to see more than 6 at a time listed.
If it doesn't support locally stored media then its even more useless to me.

You won't get the option. Ubuntu are taking a page out of Microsoft's marketing strategy. It will just come in your new TV whether you want it or not.
The early screenshots I've seen of its GUI indicate it will be as user-unfriendly and useless as unity.

I'm currently planning on becoming a brain surgeon in about 9 months from scratch with their innovative internet courseware.
