    Bzzzt. Nope.

    Its actually load balancing the top and bottom halves of the display, and cacluating the split-point dynamically for maximum performance.

    Calling it SLI is actually a misnomer.

    how well does it overclock? :-)

    More seriously, SLI is good because it protects your investment, but only if it really gives around 2x the throughput. Consider this: If you buy a single 6800 now and in a coupla years it cant keep up any more it gives you the option of buying another when they would be relatively cheap. I guess the only problem will be trying to buy *exactly* the same card twice with a 2 year gap inbetween.

    Yeah I was wondering that too...
    White-light from a projector and ambient white light both contain red, green and blue components so there really isn't any difference.

    huh?
    In front-projector systems, the screen doesn't get burnt. If you have an after-image, it'll be in the projected image from the projector.

    If you jiggle the projector so the image moves, you'll see the burnt areas will jiggle too.

    Best replacement is daylight.
    2nd best is to have all lighting from uplighters and desk lamps with individual controls and no ceiling lights.

    errrmm.. I think the wire guages might actually get larger....

    If you decrease the volts by a factor of say 10 to go from 120 to 12v, you'll need a 10x increase in Amps (current) to get the same amount of energy (watts).

    Isn't it just the transformer that makes the power supply ineffeicent (and also heavy)?

    I've never understood why they don't just bridge-rectify mains to get DC, then feed the result ( via a suitable resistor and smoothing capacitor ) straight into some voltage regulators . Obviously the marketable version would require some safety mechanisms.

    Can someone with more electronics knowledge than me (which is probably just about everyone) explain what the problem is with this approach?

    Wouldn't it also approach 100% efficiency, assuming the voltage regulators were reasonably efficient?

    I did psychology as part of my degree and vaguely remember something like a human's overall perception is 96% from vision. that only leaves 4% for sound, smell and whatever else, so that's the reason we all focus more on game graphics than sound.

    ( Apparently a dogs perception is largely built on smell, so they would judge a game based on the odour of the box it came in! )

    The major difference/benefit for gamers these days of having an expensive sound card over using the AC97 codec on your mobo is not overall sound quality, but to offload EAX/environmental audio calculations from the CPU so it maybe gives you 1 or 2 extra frames/sec.

    Actually for games where it is useful to use audio for a positional cue of off-screen bad-guys, I find EAX just muddies it up. I get a much better idea just with clean stereo.

    Its bigger than a bazooka and it only has a range of 9 ft? I think it needs minaturizing before anyone will want to use it in the field.
