    Be lucky if you get food. More seriously, I suspect that in a time not too distant you will have to have a card (security, terrorism, ease of processing, yadda ...) for each and every transaction you make. A little further on, this will be an implanted device, still later, it will be wired (interfaced) to your neural system.

    Not a new idea, though.

    Apparently nobody here has gone through the trouble of attempting to unsubscribe from tens or hundreds of spam emails a day to see how successful it is. I tried it and my spam problem actually got worse. (emphasis mine)

    This is why once upon a time there was a rule that one should never react to 'spam'.

    It might be a good idea to augment 'concepts'; abstract, technical, scientific perhaps? Definitely n_o_t concepts which are based on perception to a high degree and can only be learnt via experience (by experiencing); martial arts come to mind.

    Since we're on the subject of being honest, I wonder what would happen if, with the wave of a magic wand, all developing countries would be uplifted to the level of, say, China or India? How quickly would the planet be depleted of resources and ruined by pollution?

    Just fix your time base to the age of the universe and you all too soon realize that these things happen instantaneously .

    Though there does not seem to be much evidence (left) that literacy triggers thinking, I go for the option 'idiocracy'.

    Sooner or later the US will wake the fuck up.

    This is not the point. IMHO, it is about establishing an infrastructure to be prepared for a situation when resources are scarce.

    If the masses are short on energy and especially water, total surveillance and absolute power of the 'government' come in handy for those who think they have to loose something.

    It seems that the "experts" also do believe rather than know. Numbers differ from 100,000 to 10Mio here .
