The simple fact she's on the team is a constant issue for the men, they can't seem to get over it. Sexual harassment is a daily issue and she's learned to simply not say anything or make waves. She was no accepted on the team and the standards for her work are twice that of her co-workers because of the constant review. Despite these limitations she's persisted and eventually gained some respect as an operator after 8 years.
The fact is women aren't respected in these professions and it takes a great deal of extra effort to make it. This is why many women don't participate - patriarchy. As a woman in the tech industry I face the same discrimination. I've had men ignore me in a room despite the fact I'm the CTO of the company because they assume I'm a secretary.
It's really intended as a put down rather than a precise medical term. I was born with a correctable birth defect. It's very simple and easily treated, no need for all the drama. Most birth defects or endocrine disorders are "illnesses", although the word is not commonly applied. I think that's the reason some people respond so powerfully to calling it an illness. I'm transgender and don't give a shit what you call it but calling mentally ill people mentally ill is true but still probably an asshole thing to do. Not that anyone cares anymore. We are in the age of Don't-Care.
Unlike blindness transgenderism is not a defect of function, per se. I was born with a correctable birth defect. It's very simple and easily treated, no need for all the drama. Transgenderism, queerness and all of LGBT are normal and natural behaviors that present in nature. They're found in wonderful people and animals of all kinds who live deeply full and beautiful lives. Being transgender is not a limitation in the sense that it's fully treatable.
It's really an endocrine disorder brought about by a birth defect that can be partially surgically corrected. Opinionated assholes on either side don't contribute in any way to ease the suffering in the world. Giving trans-people treatment has been unilaterally found to save lives. Who cares about labels when people's lives are at stake.
Cash pay (where individual people "write the check") is the highest cost healthcare area and has the worst healthcare outcomes. Insurance companies (where someone else is paying) negotiate lower rates and know the value of individual procedures. Your average Joe on the other hand has no idea and will pay many times what an insurance company will for the same procedure.
We liberals were all just sitting around waiting to celebrate another group of murdered children with a news story about gun control. Then, HARK, what's this? Shit! Stop the presses! They were murdered with KNIVES? Fuck Satan what were you thinking? That doesn't fit our narrative AT ALL!
The only kind of wedding a gay person CAN HAVE is a GAY wedding. There's nothing special about "weddings" that allow a person to discriminate. So much of the ecosystem stresses templates, massive IDEs and other automated tools that make the production of thousands of lines of unnecessary boilerplate incredibly easy. Besides, isn't this the nature of Java anyway? It seems like it's designed to produce the most verbose code possible in the hope that if everything is explicit more bugs can be diagnosed since the compiler has more to work with. It's almost a troll article, seriously, it's like the guy is just tryiing to piss people off.

There is an extreme element out there that I've talked to that doesn't seem to want to deal with this basic rule of nature. Skimpy outfits have been devised over a long period of time to have maximal sexual effect on men. They accentuate breasts, hips and buttocks. Very hind-brain stuff. The basic rule of the jungle applies everywhere and always will, we live in a convenient delusion that it doesn't because the biggest and baddest group is those that support the law. Nevertheless, if you walk down the wrong alley dressed in a sexually arousing way you are more likely to get raped than if you walk down that same alley dressed like a sack of potatoes. Any expectation otherwise is insanity.
Would you walk around downtown Compton with $100 bills flopping out of your pockets at the middle of the night? What about with a KKK outfit on? Maybe that would be asking for trouble? I would assume that the results of the actions of the person doing these things was their own fault.

Modern ruby is the cleanest, most elegant, expressive and fastest of the big 4. It offers a bigger standard library (gems(40,000) vs cpan (25,000) vs pypi (1,022)), a wider selection of interpreters and platforms (IronRuby, JRuby, Rubinius,Cardinal, etc), not to mention much better documentation and educational resources.
Ruby is used by a wider group of people and in a wider area than it ever has been. Also, there's a lot of other really great languages out there you should consider before you idolize one language as perfect. Erlang and Haskell are amazing and certainly worth checking out. Not to mention node and the javascript revolutionaries (which some people abhor.) A lot of people get stuck on their first language I encourage you to branch out and try Ruby at least. You'll find a much different language than you seem to think.

You didn't even mention all the security vulnerabilities that have caused it to be disabled by default on so many of our corporate customer's machines these days.

Any cursory glance at average IQ numbers shows you that the average person is perfectly capable of critical thinking. Maybe not as quickly as those with a higher intelligence, but certainly capable. Critical thinking is a process, not an organ. It can indeed be taught.
Historically, the people saying "the people are stupid and shouldn't be trusted" were the ones who were stupid and should not have been trusted. You are one of "the people", one of us, and chances are you're not very bright. But we'll let you live freely in our society anyway, and you can take responsibilities for your own actions.
