And in Comm... I mean Democratic Bulgaria unorthorised copying of copyrighted matherial is dubbed "organised crime" (at least the police unit fighting that is the same one that busts drug dealers and whatnot - people have actually had their homes raided and their computers seized by mafia-fighters). The term "intellectual property" actually exists in the letter of Bulgarian law. The funny thing - our politicians are clueless as to what those things mean, and there are NO Bulgarian companies of any significance that would profit from such laws. Big Brother, rise!
Disclaimer: IANAA (I Am Not An American). It's probably easier to let France test the concept first. After all, there are at least several more years before fossil fuel supplies begin to deteriorate significantly. If the French are willing to take the risk (the financial risk if you wish), then let them.

Thanks! That would really help if you are burning tons of stuff and have no time to check for duplicates. I wrote a little java program to remove all duplicates and still it's an annoyance.
So far the best installation method, imho, is the "unzip" method - you get a nice zipped package, you unzip it, leaving you with a nice subdirectory, a nice executable file or two, several needed dll's/so's, several data directories/data files needed for the program to run, text files with explanations, and, preferably, a nice zip file containing all the source code and building instructions. This "installation method" works perfectly on any OS, and is indeed the one that causes the least trouble. Want to get rid of the program? Delete the directory. Waht to run the program? Open the directory, and run it. Want to hack the program? Open the source zip, download 10000 additional libraries needed, get your hands dirty (well, hey, programming is not for the average n00b, right?), etc. Just my thoughts...
Well if you happen to browse sites with pictures and you open each picture in a new tab, save the picture, then close the tab, then you eventually get to the point where working with the browser is impossible until it is restarted (don't ask how I know that!).
Imagine a world with a vast hollywood/internet providers merger. Such a thing would make it possible for the executives to charge users every time they download a movie, and yet the users will pay little more than their usual monthly internet fee. On the other hand, imagine the censorship possibilities...
So, who cares. The patent system (in the US, coming to Europe shortly) is laughable, and those in power are too busy with themselves to even think with a bit of common sense. I mean, why? WTF? Are they that out of touch with reality? What's wrong with those people, one might think that if they were clever enough to come to power they would at least try not to look like total retards when they pass new laws, right?
This is our destiny. You don't know the power of the patent law.
Seriously, those farks look like people who really wish to take a shit, and are looking for the first good place they can find for that purpose. No, really, why the hell every good thing in the programming industry must be spoiled by stupid, idiotic, short-sighted lawyers? Why? Why the ****er do we need those trolls? Why the hell are they always getting in the way, trying to piss on everything that is good and worthy?
Well, I guess I just need to "let go of things", right?
I figured drinking from the Grail just makes your wounds go away and restores your body. So, to live forever, you would have to go regularly and drink from the Grail. Since the Grail was lost because of the young girl (I felt very sorry for her at the end of the movie, I got the feeling it was a tragic ending and it kinda ruined the happy ending thing I was expecting) - nobody would be immortal any more.

I think the grandparent didn't mean to say that all multitasking code was bugfree, but you are completely right that most synchronization problems surface only on dual-core machines. Amen to that! That's one of the main reasons I can't wait to get my hands on one of those new CPUs - to test my own code! By the way, I think some Redmond-centric OS-es had better implement a feature allowing certain programs to run on one CPU only, thus making some bug workarounds possible, until the deadlocking / messed up programs are fixed.
I think I can buy some reasonably priced old dual-cpu servers at 1000 mhz or something, but nah, I need the gaming performance as well - you know, people don't work 24/7, we also need recreation and resting - and the best resting is, indeed, not sleep, but computer games!:)
By the way, Orthodoxy still views Christ as a super-human that has power over all. It would indeed be worth seeing though. And it would be most interesting to see secular ancient writings, to find out more about our history.
Yes, we should cry out loud about how wrong they are in our industry. But, in the end, the problem has been already thoroughly explained to anyone that cares, and, behold, noone with money and power cares. Big deal, what else is new? It's ok for those in power to give no shit about what's happening to those below them. It's always been so, and it will always be. So what?
I say: ignore the stupid patents, it's impossible to create any single program without violating some patent (at least in the US, but maybe also soon here, in Europe), so just go ahead and get your job done. Get your paycheck, and let the company worry about these issues. If your company gets bombed out of business with patent lawsuits, go to another company. Eventually, things will settle one way or the other. Maybe the creation of big monopolies will prevail. Maybe GPL version 3 will defeat all software patents everywhere once and for all. Maybe things will always remain muddy and we will never be sure.
I also say: use that program, mind the license, but use it despite the patents (yeah, it's easy to be brave in a country where software patents aren't valid yet). Who will sue you, the individual home user? That's crazy. Just keep a low profile. Those are the strategies of survival in a system where everyone is guilty. The important thing is what happens to you in a free-for-all system. Some will get fried, but that's the game, sadly and obviously.
... safety and fitness for purpose. Indeed, breast implants usually look simply out of place (it's a matter of taste, I suppose). And they can backfire, causing damage to the girls.
I suppose every machine fails, so these bionic eyes'd better be designed to fail gracefully, not damagind your ability to see forever. The same goes for every kind of machinery you would bet your health on, I guess.
Jobs: Can I learn the secret of this x68?
Intel: Not from AMD.

According to BBSpot, we already have smarter-than-human computers ;)

Please, someone...
... am to become the next superman? I was flying from Bulgaria to northern Norway on January 20th...
The frenchman who came up with it called it "author's rights".
Actually, that's what it's called in Bulgaria as well.

Interesting, do you know if they distribute this tool to end users? It could prove quite useful for many kinds of software out there.
I wanted to mod you up. :) Well said.

Wish I had mod points!
Wish I had mod points for you. So far the only working SVG decoder I've seen is apache's one for Java.

Our new batteries are so efficient that you will never need a lamp after using one: you will glow in the dark!
