I would actually rate the 'waterless' as more sanitary since, unlike a handle flush you never need to touch it.
Around here, I've found quite a few motion-triggered auto-flushing urinals, nicely solving that problem. Sometimes the motion sensor is a tad too sensitive, though, flushing before you're done. At least it doesn't splash.;-)
Are these USE flags parameters passes to the configure script, or are they Gentoo-specific ?
They pass parameters to the config script, although, setting SSL is nicer than manually passing --enable-ssl --ssl-prefix=/usr/blah
I've understood that "emerge" works a bit like "apt-get", in that it automatically downloads and installs dependencies. Is this correct ?
Yep.
How hard is it to add new apps ? That is, if I find an app online (or develop one myself) and want to make an ebuild for it, how difficult is it ? And how difficult would it be to get that ebuild a part of the "official" Gentoo ?
The difficulty depends greatly on the packaging of the source. An ebuild for something that would normally require "./config && make && make install" would typically only take a minute or too.
Automated patching, adding useflags, a 'weird' package etc. will require a bit more work.
As for getting it into the tree, simply stick it in Bugzilla, and wait for a dev to pick it up.:)
What happens if there's a power failure during the upgrade ? Can I simply rerun the upgrade command, or do I have to start hunting for broken package(s) ?
The actual moving of new files, and removing of old is kept until the very end of the emerge. Unless the power went out in the middle of writing something like GCC to disk, simply re-running the command will set things right.
Sorry if I'm invading your conversation, but I figure it's better than leaving questions potentially unanswered.:)
IIRC, direct downloads of the file are not counted. Additionally, most packages (Firefox included) are automatically downloaded from a mirror, as opposed to the official site. The "SRC_URI" definition is usually only used when the file fails to download from mirrors.
Sorry, I thought you meant it allowed text to actually be stored within an integer field, rather than converting it to 0. It is stupid it doesn't throw a warning. =)
Over several years, my laptop has encountered many problems. The most interesting would've been when the lid detatched itself from the base, still connected by a single cable.
I used it like that for about two weeks until the repair guy returned from holiday.
Also received many comments about it, one being "Is that one of those new tablet laptops?".:-)

Sorry, but you're stupid. Gentoo is a source-based distro, designed to be compiled from scratch, naturally taking a decent amount of time. This wouldn't be progress if it was, say, a binary based distro, but it's not. You cannot bash distro X simply because you don't like the way it's intended to be. Gentoo is designed to be this way, and many of us (myself included) like it, compiling and all. If YOU don't like it, you're not being forced to use it.
They can say whatever they want, but is it really going to change anything? Is everyone going too stop illegal dumping, and cover used technology with cement, because it's harming us?
For example, look at cars. They're pumping out tonnes of toxic fumes, but is anyone doing anything about it? No. Is anyone going to do anything about it? No. It's all about the money.
Nope. $2US = $2.66AU.
Ah, so not only tanning makes you look cool, it saves you from dying? Yet another great reason to give in to peer-pressure! o:)
It was originaly closed-source, so, er, it's replacing itself.

Half-Life has forced me to keep myself and crowbars away from men wearing blue shirts and kevlar. :)

That statement is false. I'm currently running MySQL 4.0.20, and text is unable to be entered into integer fields.
May I ask why the hell Where's Waldo? was banned?
Jabber
Death which could've been prevented is OK, as long as you save some dollars?

I attempted to install Windows XP on my computer, alongside Gentoo, and it corrupted most of my data on a seperate partition. :(

I must agree. AFAIK, there is no Linux port, but if you use windows, it's great. :)
What about nano? Personally, I find it superior.
Spilling drink over my b0x3n doesn't corrupt my data. ;P
Any chance of sharing the code? ;P
I noticed there were about three cards that produced 0fps in a number of the games tested. Isn't that just a little bit low-quality?
I hope in the end this leads to a standardized format.

What if my real-world location places me inside a wall etc. within the game?
There are ISPs that have ADSL time limits?
I wouldn't be surprised if the SP leaked, and cracks being available before the SP is actually released.
