I was in 6th grade. Now I'm an 'Associate Software Engineer' working on multi-million dollar industrial control software. It's been an interesting 10 years:)
I was watching a show on the SR-71 on speedvision yesterday and they mentioned that there is an unpiloted drone version of the plane. Apparently it was produced around the same time as the blackbird, but it's still secret. Seems like it was probably able to do this a long time ago, they just chjose not to tell us...
Users lose dialog boxes. I don't know how, but they do it. I've spent the last two days making all the error pop-ups in my company's software not only modal, but stay-on-top and sticky too. Granted this is a highly specialized system, and theoretically missing one of those errors could put lives in danger, but how the hell do you lose an error box? It's right in front of you dammit.
As if I didn't have better things to work on...
I wouls imagine BugBBQ is named after the character named Bug Barbeque in Douglas Coupland's Microserfs. I always thought that was a lame-ass nick name for the character though...
I fail to understand why we should pay attention to anything this troublemaker has to say.
Maybe because he wrote up a very handy little summary of the legalities of running your own webcast? I don't think his hacker-status is really relevant to the article.
Damnit, how come nobody told me that before I voted?

Did anyone actually read the article? This is about the 50th post I've seen claiming that a usenet archive is not commercially feasible. To save you the trouble of clicking the pretty green link in the story, I'll cut and paste:
The company believes the profitable Usenet business unit, which has long had an Internet-savvy audience, will appeal to many buyers...
I hate these threads. "This isn't news for nerds! blah blah blah"
But for once, I really have to agree with you. I read the headline, and I thought "duh". So I read the story, thinking maybe I was missing something. I wasn't.
Oh well, best not think to deeply on this one, huh?
The new Logan's Run movie is going to be produced by Joel Silver, who also produced The Matrix. It is NOT going to be directed by the Wachowski Brothers, who directed The Matrix.
> beer store? --> ontario isn't canada - it differs province to province...
My apologies. I have to admit I've never been outside Ontario.
And I wouldn't get mad at that, I heartily agree that our drinking age is absolutely ridiculous. I can't think of a single person who waited until they were 21 to try drinking. Hell, half of my friends (including me) got fake id's just so we could go out to bars when we were sophomores in college! They wonder why so many people 'binge-drink' on college campuses, but they don't let us go out and drink responsibly at a bar. It's way too expensive to drink 'till yer dead at a bar, and there's people there like bartenders and bouncers who will cut you off eventually! But hell, get 10 guys together, throw in $10 each and you got yourself a half-barrel! WOO!
I didn't intend to write this much, since I know that no one's going to read it cuz this story's so old.... oh well.
Are you crazy? We Americans don't drink American beer. I'm pretty partial to Labbatt Blue and Molson Canadien personally.
Bud or MGD will do in a pinch, but I almost never buy either one.
As to selling it at gas stations, I can't stand the way you have to search out a Beer Store up there. We can get our Beer anytime anywhere pretty much. And I don't see how it's bad for the kids, we still card people. (although when I was like 20 I had this friend that worked at a gas station, so...)
A company I used to work for was the American distributor of some Finnish software. By the time I got there a lot of it had been translated , but there were still large chunks where all the variable names and comments were in Finnish! You just didn't touch those sections, and hoped that wasn't where the problem was...
Except that Ion Storm Austin isn't a bunch of schmucks like Ion Storm Dallas. They appear to operate pretty independently. The Austin group made Deus Ex (pronounced Day-us X btw), which was a totally kick ass game. In fact it was the best game I've played in a long time, and I play a lot of games.
I think that Warren Spector (the guy in charge of Ion Storm Austin) is just leaching off of Romero & co for money. He has a long history of making good games and he had a part in making Thief 2, so he really is the perfect guy for the job.
But you're using the V2 for 3d. That has nothing to do with the ATI card. Granted I've heard that the all-in-wonder is pretty good for video capture, but you can get a geforce with TV-out if that's all you're interested in.
I'm sure they do use software like that. Those shows cost millions of dollars, you think their going to scrimp on software?
It opened last night here in the states. It's showing at pretty much every theatre near me.

And our best radio station is at wber.monroe.edu!

This is all that matters though...

That is EXACTLY what the person you replied to said.

True, but it would have had to be travelling at least 7 billion years to be that far away, unless NASA developed FTL travel without telling anyone....

(Pop culture obscure movie reference alert!)
Now maybe I'll actually be able to afford one of those kick-ass titanium barrels for my paintball gun :)
It obviously made quite an impression on you. Note that it's the list of "least influential" movies, not worst movies.
