My wife is deaf and I am hearing. I can tell you that there is a huge difference between using a system of IM/SMS/TTY vs using sign language. It can be basically summed up as the same difference between singleplex and multiplexing. With video you have the ability of bidirectional communication and faster throughput of words. Which is the difference between a 5 minute conversation to a 30 second one. My wife can type about 70-80 wpm, yet she can sign many times faster... Recently we had a VRS (Video Relay System) unit installed at our house, now I don't see how we could function without it... It is like getting broadband.
Awesome! This could be very cost saving for when my son starts school. Just train the robot on his teachers voice to sign what they are saying... It looks like the only thing I'll have to figure out how to do is to translate SEE - Signed Exact English to ASL - American Sign Language... Hope they make a good SDK...
I read all the threads about hybrid vehicle's, but in all actuality it sounds like you could use this technology to fully power a vehicle. It will have side affects, as in taking power off of the grid (as well as getting the power on to the grid in the first place), but we still have to look at our oil consumption... We could just pull up to a recharging station and recharge in the same amount of time as it takes to pump gas.
I built a replica of my block. Houses, Streetlights...(of course in mismatched colors) and added the monorail to it! But I had the airport set... I took the airplane hull pieces and invert it for the track and added a technic motor + wheel to the back... I can not tell you how many times I had to change out the C batteries for that...
Actually with my spouse being deaf, I find it 100 x better than signing... Until recently, when I bought her a new computer and networked it to mine, we had many conversations together just using a text editor. And lets not get into the SMS... I am sure my WPM is in the 20-30 range on a cell keypad.
