But seriously, wasn't this (from a medial doc pov) tried on Star Trek Voyager?? hehe......now where did my tools to build my own Seven of 9 go....

Apples' hardware usability dept claim that this is "easier" for users.

For the last year, IE has been our self-admitted"-"mac-zealot"-employers' only way of finding a Mac node on our network, OS9 & Panther mix. (ironicly xserv-run network btw)
Plug'n-play-networking w/windows "out of the box" my arse.
And unlike our Win boxes, IF you are lucky enough to find another Mac on the network, you need a pass/user combo to access a dir.
Normal I know, but annoying, and costly in a production environ.
Everytime a win box wants to grab anything off another Mac machine, the Mac user has to setup a separate pseudo-shared pass/user protected folder, and copy the files there for us to grab.
On Windows, you right-click (no way! a multi-button mouse??? hehe.. yeah, a troll I know:)
on any folder and make it shared.
And of story.
If any Mac folk wish to tell me wtf our "Mac-network-guy" is doing wrong, I'd be happy to tell him:)
Out of the box, a Mac can see others just fine.
NOT the other way around as advertised by Apple MANY, MANY times.
(at least that was the bs our boss bought from his sales-retard at the Apple store)

I feel sorry for the confusion this will cause all the Nescafe' folks:)
Nope:) All pc here at our studio.
Our particular configs are MUCH faster, cheaper, and more reliable than even the new dual g5's we tested for Maya earlier this year.
Plus, the fact is because of the larger number of Windows-based Maya developers, there are just way more plugins and scripts available than for the Mac at the moment, especialy for our needs, so that was a no-brainer for us as well.
Maya is a 3d animation and fx package, while FCP (mac only btw) and APpro are dv editing packages.
Totaly separate beasts from the 3d world:)
Both the pc and mac hardware support 2d editing accelerator cards/drives so it's really a wash in terms of speed on the 2d front for us.
HOWEVER, Adobe's list of Premier Pro certified cards for the mac:
http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/6cards.html only include the RTMac and the Igniter. Neither of which are compatible with OS-X yet, let alone Panther optimized.
That will change soon I'm sure, as most things do.
I agree with the bike usage, as during my last tour with a late 99'.com I bought a "Recumbent" bike. You know, the bike for those of us who want a place to set our nachos (tummy) while we watch our dvd collection and pedal away.
Kidding aside, I, like many of us here, are paid poorly to sit on our collective asses for 8+ hours a day, then go home to sit for another 6+ hours.
Fine, I'm cool wit dat. That's what I signed up for. What I did not sign up for was my/our ever-expanding monster-truck tire slowly crushin my chest when I finaly get some sleep.
My question is, has any of us geeks ever actually succeeeded with any of these diets without having to DRASTICLY change your love for the crt-tanning sessions?
I for one would like to hear about it, (feel free to email me off list) as am wanting to start a "diet" of some sort, and am willing to be realistic about it.
Checking the Hackers and Atkins ones now....
I'm 5'6" @ 210lbs, so can Obi Wan even help me?..or is my only hope to drasticly change the way I live/work?
This group of threads I've read so far has been turned into another win/mac debate, rather than a debate as to the validity of the writing/brainpower/opinion that this "writer" claims to have.
His babblings are so full of holes it makes me want to smother it with mustard and slap it on a sandwich:) hehe...
Quote: Why should my child work on a Mac in class when most people use PCs at home and in the office? I've heard this lament time and again in my son's schools over the years. Um, maybe it's just me, but it sounds like your son is trying to communicate with you, but you simply don't care because, among many other reasons I'm sure, you just can't face facts.
Today, PCs have little price advantage over Macs. Apple's eMac, designed as a low-cost model for school systems, costs $50 more, at most, than a comparable low-end PC. Don't even get me started on that one....too late. My nephews go to the same schools that I went to way back,(VERY large puplic schools), and the admins there are my daily buds. NOT ONE of them reccommends a store-bought machine for daily use by teachers and students. EVERY one of the machines in the district I live in have been hand-built for pennies compared to the emac trash that Apple is trying to pass off. Networking is a dream, and they have not had a single Win-related crash in over 5 years. Heck, currently, the machines that the art departments use are the same build that I use for my Maya and video editing work here at home. (P4 2.4 gig 800mgzFSB, 512MB PC3200 Dual Channel DDR, 52x24x52 burner (could go without), and an asus mobo. As of last week, all for less than $550 bucks! (sans specialized vid card, but still!) http://www.nanosys1.com
It's all vaguely reminiscent of those Apple ads from the 1980s, depicting human drones in shades of gray marching together, watching Big Brother on the big screen -- until one hurls a hammer at the screen. Yes it is, isn't it:) Only folks are finaly realizing the truth. First that ad was in 1984 (during the super bowl) and was shown only ONCE. And folks are waking up to the fact that that "hammer-throwing-big-boobed-chick" is old as hell now, and her big boobs are saggin' like crazy! But, if you want to be a "human-drone", you go ahead buddy. I for one am embracing the NOW. (even if that means Longhorn, and Palladium.)
Nor is Apple shy about slashing prices. In July, it announced another round of cuts to schools and colleges, shaving the cost of some models by up to 15%. WOW!!! Did you say a WHOLE 15%???? (see my price quotes above)

Ok, I know this might be anal, but out of habbit, I just peeked the code behind thier main page here.
