    I don't know if cigarette taxes are the reason to still allow cigarettes in Sweden, for example. I imagine the cost to society from smoking may well be greater than the income, thanks to universal healthcare.

    The real reason is probably that banning cigarettes would cause a huge(er) smuggling problem and large mobs of angry, smoking protesters.

    People who smoke tend to die earlier but after retirement. That is exactly (financially) when the government+healthcare wants you to die. I'm not a smoker, but I actually believe that banning smoking would cause the average cost/person of health care to rise as people live longer and incur more TOTAL costs. Do I have facts and figures no, but we're just talking here right?

    If this is a serious question:
        The danger from the frequency of radiation found in microwaves it purely from the heat it induces. The reason for further shielding a microwave (more than it already is), is to reduce its interference with wireless devices, not to stop your food from becoming unsafe to eat.

    If it uses a plugin (active X / nsplugin ) to do some of the work. Think of the linux complaint about flash not being 64bit (there is an 'alpha' version now, but there wasn't for a long time.

    I have now, in my head, reworded a counter argument to myself and convinced myself that you are more right.
    E.g. that is it more possible for there an algae bloom in cold water than it is to be impossible.

    So, what is feeding this in such cold water?

    Probably Nutrients, but from where? oceanic currents? earthquake volcanic activity? runoff?

    I think it's a bit much to say these do not happen at the poles. We simply haven't encountered one yet.

    If that statement was logically sound, couldn't you use it to refute any negative 'fact'?

    Simple statement: People can't fly

    This would directly translate to:

    NX_dr = 1/100 * Plain-X_dr

    Despite this annoyance in colloquial English, I think most people understood what you were saying.

        This thing crawls using a marriage of mechanical and eletrical devices and detects its environment.

    I get that is isn't exactly Johhny 5, but the definition of robot is quite weak, and I doubt it completely excludes this from its set.

    The magnetic field for powering is simply enough that direction is unimportant, so they currently don't need to localize/track it.

    That assumes that people in china would still be buying a game that old if they couldn't get it for free.

    I bought start craft because of its convenient at-home LAN licensing and advanced map editor (it had great triggers at the time). I already had wc2 why did I need another RTS?. I won't be buying SC2 with out it (partly because I don't get the same fun out of RTSs anymore).

    Blizzard made boatloads of money and notoriety with Startcraft + Broodwars. If they are bitching about-

    Cos millions of players in China were/are/going to using pirated SC/WC3 to play without any limitation.

    then they can just go home and make a new game as opposed to sitting on their asses and collecting licensing revenue.

    ...a couple of these outfits went after them in court to try and prevent it (thereby preserving their distribution lock.) I don't know what the eventual outcome of that was.

    They lost, and they lost rather completely.

    The most recent subject would be "a couple [of these outfits]" referring to the outfits that sued.

    Of course not, no one does. That argument doesn't even have a follow up. The math/alphabet/physics that was taught to him in school (Or learned it himself). We (as a society) want people to use their education. Otherwise we wouldn't teach it, and encourage higher education.

    Well hey, at least when you published your book, you probably did so on a machine completely of your own design. Using a printing system you invented. No?

    I'm sure that when you BUY a printer, or pay someone to print it for you, you get the right to turn around and sell what you've printed. WTF does this have to do with anything?

    Of course work done is going to take from influences in your life and possible use technology that you didn't make from sand. That is because long ago we broke into a specialized society where I don't grow the food I eat, or build the car I drive. We also evolved to be able to pass on learned knowledge in various ways.     I'm sure it might be possible to game the system, but the amount of time you lose on the phone with multiple levels of customer service if anything goes wrong (and it will) will make it not really worth it.
