The maps aren't connected in terms of IP addresses as coordinates. It's a map of the links between hosts and networks. Very basically, they are doing traceroute/tracert to hosts and each host that gets mentioned is one dot, and it is connected to the hosts before and after it. If you haven't used traceroute before, run traceroute or tracert in a command window with a host name. The shorter one is used in windows. So to see the hops involved in talking to my website, you would run "tracert hattmoward.org"
Microcode, my friend, microcode. It isn't much on the radar these days, but it was a big deal back in the 'frame days. IO devices ran themselves, instead of the CPU coordinating them, and the microcode did the hard work. Intel uses the microcode functionality in it's i686-class processors for some of it's errata, but nobody seems to notice.
Can anyone find some Prior from NetWare's filesystem namespaces? For those who haven't touched that piece of crap;) it's a system that allows for a "common name space for long and short file names":> NW supports DOS, OS/2, LONG, and UNIX namespaces, AFAIK.
I can't speak for all open source projects, but in the case of the linux kernel, it is mostly developed by middle-age professional developers. Don't get me wrong, we need lots of testing, but you're promoting the myth that linux is developed by thousands of ugly teenagers. I, for one, welcome our teenage overlords.
Oh, about those claims of stability, you can check the linux counter project or netcraft's survey site.
If NetBIOS broadcasts are a problem, you could have a Windows server or a unix host running Samba be a WINS server, and have DHCP tell the clients to go to WINS-only mode instead of Hybrid.
Not that I like Windows or it's "networking", but it sounds like your sysadms are morons.
If you're talking about VPN compatibility with RH9, FreeS/WAN IPSec works beautifully. I wouldn't waste the effort on the SSL VPN, it's such a hit to have a protocol stack like this: IP-TCP-SSL-PPP-TCP You'll find the Cisco IPSec VPN in UDP mode is like going from a School Zone to an Interstate.
Umm, commercial-class check software produces a list of checks that were printed, and cleared by an authorized human being at the company. Each of these files is sent to the bank who holds the account the check was written against. The banks check against these records when the check is processed, then it comes back to the company in a file of cleared checks. Many banks are using thumbprint ID on checks, and photocopy your ID if you aren't an accountholder.
Also, all of our checks have the signature printed in MICR also, which is checked by Union Federal and Key Bank on processing -- and the signature has to be GOOD; I make service calls on that damned printer all the time. Unfortunately not all banks do this.

I am amazed at how many people can produce bullshit on slashdot, and everyone eats it up. Informative! gah.
Unless things are different in Cali, some public university official can't arbitrarily charge someone with "a misdemeanor", nor is "trademark infringement" a criminal offense, but it all depends on what is laid out in the aforementioned law. This isn't trademark infringement, they have a law that reserves the name. I would do some more research, and probably drop some cash for a lawyer to assess the situation.
I think you missed this one completely! Those are both network devices that are very common in Sun hardware, I have an Ultra Enterprise 3000, Ultra 1, SparcStation 5, and Ultra 10 that all use happy meal cards. The netdevice name is hme0 If you've only cut your teeth on Linux for UNIX, you probably didn't realize that some UNIXes name netdevices by the piece of hardware, rather than the type of connection. Anyway, that's no troll, but don't feed any if you see them!:)

Let us not forget ye olde Half-Life 2, either! A spectacle of a compromise!
He's just talking about the .torrent file, which points to a torrent tracker, not the torrent data itself; and DNS works over TCP also.

Didn't see anything either, /and/ I didn't see any links to source. Is this proprietary software or not?

;)
Exactly how much compiling are you going to do to perl code??? besides, if it's not in portage, they can try this:
;)
time perl -MCPAN -e 'install Mail::SpamAssassin;'
Oh also, either go stable or unstable; testing is for girly-men!
BTW, I'm a slackware fan. heh.
