Final Fantasy Anthologies for the original Playstation was a rerelease of Final Fantasy 5 and 6, 5 being released for the first time in the US. Both were still the sprite-based 32-bit graphics variety, but they did include some fancy pants cut scenes in both games. So a US release was done. You just missed out.

  3. I interviewed Gary Gygax in High School on 30 Years of Adventure: A Celebration of D&D · · Score: 5, Interesting

Completely off-topic, but I contacted Mr. Gygax for an interview while I was a senior in high school many moons ago. My senior paper was debunking the myth that roleplaying games led to satanism. Although the interview was done over email, I was very surprised that Mr. Gygax was so very cordial and more than happy to help out a mere high school student. He even asked me to send him a copy of the paper, which I made certain to do.

I just wanted to point out that he's a very kind-hearted individual and definitely impressed me during my interview.

  4. 99% job placement rate my ass on Techies Migrate in Search of Work · · Score: 3, Interesting

When I started uni, the IT market was hot and no one was having trouble getting work. In fact, I probably would have been better off getting a job right off the bat instead of dropping the price of a small island in the south pacific on going to school. I spent an entire year out of school looking for IT work...mostly focused in one city, but toward the end of my search I just wanted a job. I must have sent out hundreds of resumes and had a few interviews but nothing solid. The company I'm now working for called me out of no where...I believe they got my resume from Monster, although I hadn't updated that resume in years as I have a serious loathing of monster.com.

I don't think we can blame the dot com bubble bursting on the serious lack of IT jobs in the country...outsourcing may be to blame, but that's typically helpdesk sort of work. Also, the guy that posted about DC having an array of IT jobs...believe it. Northern Virginia has a surplus of IT jobs most of the time...I grew up there and hopped around to a number of great positions even before school. I would've gone back if I didn't hate the area so much.

Good luck with the job search to all you unemployed out there.

  7. Bridge Over River Kwai on Sir Alec Guinness Dies · · Score: 1

How can anyone say this movie is good? It's the most grossly innacurate portrayal of prisoners building the railroad for the Japanese during WWII. The entire movie is complete garbage that depicts the hardship those poor soldiers went through as something trivial.

    Fuck that movie.

Can someone explain to me the point of having a citizenship in a "country" like this? What will it get you?

Absolutely nothing. I can't see how having this kind of citizenship and living in any country in the world would have any benefits other than making life more difficult for you.

Would you pay taxes to the online country? What about my rights? Can I live in a country where free speech doesn't exists, yet I have free speech because I'm a citizen of OnlineCountryX?

Can I get out of paying my US Taxes by gaining citizenship?

Give me a break. What a load of trash! Without land, a country really doesn't have any power. And I doubt that any online country will be recognized without some kind of land.

But this is all my opinion, of course. :)

  9. Doesn't play nicely with others. on Compaq Attempts to Muscle eMachines in Court · · Score: 1

Time to send a note home to Compaq's parents...This is just another example of a company that can't compete outside of the court room. Gimme a break.

Besides, I don't know anyone who'd buy computers from any of the companies listed above...And I've yet to see a manufacturer than can build a better computer for less money than I can build one myself. Sub-$1000 or not.

  10. Re:Jar Jar on Quickie Fu · · Score: 1

I thought that it was a play off a Jamacian stereotype before I had heard it online. I think the sound of Jar Jar's accent and the Kettle drums at the end (carribean music -- come on?) made me think that.

    *snip*

Did you hear "kettle drums" and assume carribean music? The drums they played during the parade didn't even sound like authentic kettle drums (and I've been a percussionist for nine years).

The Gungans are playing a march, which sounds very much like a drum corp cadence.

As for the accent, Jamacians don't sound anything like that...there's was a guy I knew in high school with a Jamacian accent and Jar Jar sounds nothing like him.

This is not a flame. For the record I can't stand Jar Jar at all. He's the most annoying and worthless character out of the entire series. At least threepio and artoo were actually kind of amusing. :/
