Neil is the type of person that would argue with the mountain climber about whether there's a reason for climbing the mountain. I imagine him saying, "But Why!?!"
For all the other programmers out there, continue honing your skills and techniques even if the apps you create aren't appreciated or widely acknowledged
It sounds like the old P40ES system that county and state surveyors have been using for over a decade. A co-worker was even involved in the P40's developement and said that it was a simple task of relaying the opt signal to the three receivers (compass, inclinometer, ld meter). The only NEW developement I see here is the "digitality" of the compass and the addition of the digital camera. Besides that though, I doubt that its worth the retraining of a personnel who are adept at working with the previous equipment. If there had been a need for this device, SURE. But our tax dollars shouldn't be spent on the latest and greatest if it isn't an improvement.
I'm kinda glad Microsoft is doing this. I like to see big corporations get bigger through extortion. It reminds me of my childhood in Sicily. Ah... the bullies and their "families."
I can't say that the LCD with 700:1 is just a coincidence, but CPU's for example have different steppings that experienced geeks can identify as able to oc much higher. The athlon 2500+ xp barton with a stepping of XEA, ZEA, or ZFA are known to be not only the latest steppings, but we know that these steppings mean that they could overclock from the original 1.8 GHz to 2.7 GHz easily.
I spoke with my sister who used to work for Asus and it was widely known among employees that certain batches of motherboards etc. were better though all products were checked to meet the minimum QA requirements. I'm sure most electronic manufacturers are able to identify the better section of their inventory.
I am beta testing Napster 2.0B (emphasis on the "B"), & it works fine nor has it ever crashed. EVER.
I'd rather pay $10 for all the music I want from a legal service then follow the immature and dishonest adolescent mentality that if you can get away with an illegal activity, you should. In fact, I've read posts stating that it's insane to pay for music when you could steal it.
Call me crazy, but my morals go deeper than a superficial external cloth that matches the monthly fashion.
We know that SCO has no claim to linux, but I marvel that someone has the basic knowledge of typing out and posting their opinion online but still doesn't know that the record industries and music artists HAVE COMPLETE CLAIM to their own music and that you're stealing just like a highschool freshman steals CDs from MediaPlay or Walmart when you use P2P to swap music.
I spoke with a friend who helps maintain the google engine. She said that they were running into some problems with a "cleaning agent." Because of all the sites taking advantage of the word revelancy, there are useless sites that simply have a list of words or phrases. It's been posted before that there are many pages designed for GATOR/GAIN spreading or other spyware/adware. She quoted the percentage of junk pages being at 35% to 40%. The cleaning agent was supposed to run through its own searches and check for junk and keep a log.
She didn't say if the problem was that the cleaning agent was clogging searches or if any logged junk pages had been blocked. If so maybe the agent is flawed. In any case, they've stopped using it for the time being.
In reality you can search for anything within quotes and get what you where looking for. (e.g. ' "candles" "motorcycles" ' ) That's what I've always done on google. It's a more effective search.
I think that another part is our own connection. We're tired of hearing about a world where laser weapons and fusion generators are considered a possiblity or even a common occurance. Things that we've dreamed about seeing someday but are impractical. Imagine if the military developed a laser rifle. There's not much to imagine.
We even want to believe some fantasies more than others because they're in our past. We know that it will take a century or more before we can all board a space freighter and play space cowboys, but to look back to an ancient world that seems to have influenced our present state is awe-inspiring. We have always pondered our origins.
But when we compare any SF to Tolkien, we can't expect it to hold much water. Tolkien wasn't just interested in making a few heroes that fought evil and won. He wanted to create a mythology for the English. And by creating a myriad of logical but fantastic cultures, and I mean complete cultures with architecture, language, and a genealogy (contained in the Silmarillion), he succeeded.
(I do enjoy Asimov's stories, though.)
I agree completely. They try aggressive business tactics to close out competitors but it only frustrates the end users and forces companies to look for software solutions that aren't so exclusive. It even raises the bar for the competition. Ill advised move, M$. I think that we'll see more (if possible) desktop users loathe the the barrier M$ has decided to build between itself and the consumer
If you follow the submitter's website link, you find it goes to BLESSED... Hmmm... That was in the review... Looks like self-advertising as well as bad writing.
I believe that those that vote aren't so mindless as to take a look at a candidate and subconciously accept that they'll do a better job because they're good looking. Even less that the voters saw Clinton and sat down and thought, "Hmm... That Clinton sure is a looker. I think he'll be great this term."
As to charisma, all Presidents have some charisma (duh). But... charisma isn't "smart." If you mean speaking ability, you're right about Clinton.
And I don't think you understood that I wasn't against candidates being elected because they are smart. I was laughing because the thread I responded to said that Georgy was smart. Just saying that makes me laugh again. Ha Ha Ha Ha.
Smarter and Cuter... hmmm.... I don't think the issue on anyone's mind is if the candidate is cuter than another. And smarter. You must be joking. So I'll just laugh along with you. Ha Ha Ha Ha.
