    these types of articles get spun by established industries to pooh-pooh new innovation. The question is how many fish die from hydroelectric dams; how many cute, furry animals get killed by coal mining, etc; nevermind indirect effects like acid rain (indirect effects likely don't capture the public's imagination as strongly)

    If I call them to politely make the point that I think turnabout is fairplay, it is not harassment, it is free speech. Arguably, I can even call several times with the same message to make the point that I don't like being called repeatedly with the same spiel and it would still be free speech, not harassment...it is not my fault that they get /.'d because so many ppl share that opinion; if anything, it validates my opinion and my right to make it known...

    I checked my digital watch and saw I was late for work, so I jaywalked...and was arrested for a computer crime...think it won't happen? FBI uses Patriot Act as their catchall excuse, why not computer crimes (it's like an oxygen clause to increase sentences on all crimes committed while breathing); and *everyone* has something with a transistor in it...for that matter, filesharing mp3's was a civil matter (copyright infringement), but now the RIAA could sick the feds on you for computer crimes. Think they won't? (Unless they really just after the money from lawsuits)

    so say I get into a bar fight, get arrested, successfully go to AA, and get tracked as part of parole condition...do I really want to trust system not to parole-breach me because I bought my groceries or gas where alcohol was sold? Do you really think it's not going to happen? Especially if they want an excuse to put me away for something they think I did (but didn't)? Does anyone really believe that it won't happen?

    umm...my technical knowledge of internet is shaky, but as long as the cables/phone, servers (or any other type of intermediary) lies within american territory, it could legally be monitored and then build a case against guilty americans....not nearly as easy as fill-in-the-blanks police-state mass-subpoenas to ISP's but still successful, if far more expensive (it's called due process) satellite link from Canada would be nearly impossible to prosecute in America, and possibly difficult to prosecute in Canada because of international scope...

    it's like most other things in Canada...we all chip in and those who use it benefit...when the govt does it, we call it universal health care; when a business does it, we call it car insurance. I hope to never need either (meaning I've been "ripped off"), but damn, I couldn't afford the bill on my own if it didn't exist...so thank you for doing your part to support the legality of my 1600+ mp3's and you're welcome for my part in paying for your emergency medical care following the car accident that i (partially) paid the repairs for...guess who got the better of that deal?

    in Canada, by legal definition, it is not staling...we get something (copies of music) in exchange for financial compensation (taxes levied specifically for the copyright holders)...the only thing that makes it look like stealing is that it ended up being a REALLY bad deal for the music companies...they sure thought it was a cash cow when they argued to get those very laws enacted though...

    Biggest threat to econocars: freight train-sized (and massed) SUV's...if everyone drove econocars for economy's sake, econocars would fare as well in safety considerations...the corresponding drop in insurance costs would allow me to pay for an ACTUAL penis-extension...

    what?! you mean the government will throw away billions of dollars in aerospace/military contracts so that they can properly round off our tolls to the nearest cent-per-inch travelled? The savings and efficiencies won't justify the pork barreling? I'm appalled! Shocked, even!

    hmmm...if i'm coming in from out of state, i'm presumably spending my money on food, hotels, tourist attractions, business matters and many other ways that pump the local economy. These same taxes, when levied on local residents, pay for (directly or indirectly) "local" matters like education, hospitals, social services, etc. from which I'll never get to reap the benefits (for example, libraries that i can't use because i'm not a local resident). These taxes more than make up for whatever "wear and tear" i inflict on the local roads and public systems, etc. Tourism is a cash cow for any jurisdiction and a poor excuse to levy further taxes except that I won't be eligible to register my annoyance at the next election because i'm not from a given area...

    Miller's Dark Knight gave us a preview of how comics could appeal to more mature audiences, but it was still about spandex clad superheroes...Watchmen took us further from typical superhero fare, but Sandman is what starts to show non-fanboys that comics is far more than pulp version of the Batman TV series...that's it's not all tits and spandex for 13 y/o (not there's anything wrong with that either :) ...besides...how else do I justify my /nick and .sig that covers up my lack of having-a-real-life?

    yeah, but if it's remotely possible (esp. if it's proveably so), you know Hollywood's gonna make a movie about it...for the record, I'm claiming copyright on the idea...if the moon's moving away even just an inch a year, it would have been something like 80,000 miles closer to earth (assuming it's been constant rate for past 5 billion yrs. and my brain hasn't turned to mush...) and that must be a noticeable difference...

    would it not be simple enough to observe that the mean distance between 2 bodies is changing, however microscopically, and conclude that the orbiting body will collide or escape, even if we can't say when?

    Since no orbit is perfect, everything eventually spirals into a collision or escapes its orbit (moon gets an inch or so further from us every year). Anyone know which planets will eventually collide with the sun and which ones will escape (Pluto, I think)? Along those lines some planets could theoretically collide as they change their relative distances from the sun. I'm right at least in theory aren't I?

    Professional wrestlers & dead men elected to office, controversy in NJ and Fla last year, not to mention Fla contributing to Dubya's overthrow of Gore (even if everything WAS kosher, the family link requires far more conclusive results for appearances sake), and now the freak show in California (Clinton faced impeachment w/o leaving office; Calif. should require something more serious than being left holding the bag post-Enron) but you're worried about *potential* issues in *future* elections? Mod me down all you want, but the bigger issue here is the fact that, realtively speaking, GA is a non-issue...

    who's to say that she/they reveal any/all flaws? Isn't this giving her the inside scoop on manipulating future election results as well as one free trial run to see if the officials can detect her manipulations? (hypothetically speaking)

    Fair amount of money at stake if she wanted to auction off her knowledge...
