    Or should I mention the practical aspects of how the bloody hell can a group (the legislative body) even pretend to understand the technology enough to license it?

    Or do you propose that geeks would be the ones licensing it? Yeah, that makes sense, except for the simple fact that would be anethema to our geek culture. License? To communicate?

    a^3+b^3 = (a+b)(a^2 - ab + b^2 ), on the other hand, shows quite clearly that no matter what numbers a and b you pick, you end up, in your equation, with a negative number.

    Can't be said loudly or often enough:

    America is NOT a "democracy", NOR SHOULD IT BE.

    It was founded as a republic.

    In brief, a democracy always devolves into mob rule, whereas a republic as we designed it was supposed to protect minority rights. There are some things which it is just plain wrong to vote on.

    As for the CPD ... I'd say "What a joke", except it is NOT funny that only the Demopublicans are allowed into the debate. Anyone who isn't a Republicrat is automatically excluded - BECAUSE it would cause people to ... GASP! ... think about the issues ... oh NO!

    Linux is a stupid choice for a home desktop.

    Is that so? The only thing I don't have on my desktop due to lack of windoze is games. Everything else, I have.

    Please tell me how my choice to run linux on my desktop is stupid again?

    As for choice - explain to me how Windows is CHOSEN as the desktop for most of it's userbase.

    Oh wait - it isn't. It's pre-installed. Gotcha.

    That may be true, I don't have any games on my system except kasteroids and the like ...

    But my overall point is that the gaming environment on linux still lags way, way behind Windoze.

    On the related point of hardware compatibility, thats never a problem I have personally had with linux, but I've never owned esoteric hardware either.

    Maybe someday I'll try out some of those games you mention, but I'll have to upgrade my POS videocard.

    I just switched about three weeks ago from Debian to Gentoo, and so far I love it!

    emerge is as easy for me as apt-get was, and the only difference is I have to be patient with long builds. For me, thats a "so what" ?

    I'd personally rather wait during the install, than wait while the machine is supposed to be running.

    And while I am not a linux newbie, I certainly am no guru (yet :^), but I find Gentoo as easy as Debian. BOTH are MUCH better than RedHat, IMHO.

    Anyhow, whatever *nix one chooses, it handily beats Windoze over the head except for gaming. *sigh*

    Linux on THE desktop? Linux is on MY desktop.
