A List Apart, the design magazine, did it nearly two years before!
Let me quote something from that article:
Before you panic because I'm picking on Slashdot, let me inform you that I asked Rob "CmdrTaco" Malda, the guru behind Slashdot, for permission to post this information, and he stated in his reply email:
Have fun. Feel free to submit patches back to us if you come up with anything useful. Slashdot's source code is open source and available at www.slashcode.com.
Yes, you can use it as a 20gig harddisk, but you cannot transfer the music using filecopy, because of the propietary OMG (atrac3) format. (You have to use sonicstage)
AFAIK you have to transfer MP3s using SS, too. It is sad, as SS is a piece of sh|t.

Managed code - in this case.NET - is inherently secured against buffer underruns and code injection, until the VM or and the external components used by the framework do not have buffer underrin bugs.
And that's just what happened..NET Framework is heavily dependent on GDI+. Now you can use a managed software to hack the system.
There is nothing revolutionary with the hardware (however i'm sure i'll buy one to replace my MZ-R700), their software sucks.
The SonicStage reached the version 2.1 and it still gives you random Access Violation at error while importing media into your library. Even a malformed ID3 tag can kill it. And it does NOT run on Windows 2003 Server only Professional. This is a big drawback because I will NOT install an XP Prof just to feed my player or MD. And they do not have Linux support either...
When they support other formats than ATRAC3 and they manage to write a much more bugfree softwer, then we can compare to iPods.
And another drawback: it doesn't have any kind of remote like the MD's have.
Let me quote something from that article:
LOL, you hate the software and avoid it, because it crashed for you 3 years before? How pathetic.

(Note, I have only an NWHD1)
Great, they have released it just one day before Firefox Final.
They could have wait 1 day.

MOzilla has this feature too. Click here to try it out.
i mean.. vehicles? are you playing an FPS or a car (airplane, whatever) simulator?
and in D3 you can increase the number of players from 4 to 32 with a simple cfg hack...

Maybe YOU are warezing windows server, however I have a LEGAL, licensed version both at my workplace and at home.
I am using it because I develop software which runs on top of it. It's much-much comfortable to deploy and debug the test version of the applications.
And what dou you mean "built for network admins"? Windows 2003 server, the operating system of network admins? Like Xp home edition for grandpa?
The NW-HD1 has a 256MB internal memory for buffering, this could explain the long battery life.

You must be new here.
So now they can catch up with ATI's latest Radeons?
Consider how safe your data is in a Microsoft proprietary format.
;]
It's the safest! No one ever can read it!
He didn't break it, but "implemented" the 0th law.
3 minutes and already slashdotted. anyone has a mirror?
What's the big deal anyway? It's just a game. it is THE game.
Have you ever tried Windows 2003 Server? This THE app server designed for .NET.
And there is already a patch for the SSCLI Rotor to make it support generics.
Win32 app working under .NET? What do you mean working under .net? .NET is a managed environment, a JIT-ed world with bytecode, GC etc. (like Java)
Win32 app doesn't run "under .NET". They are binary code, they have no connection to the managed runtime.
Or you mean Windows 2003 Server (known previously .NET server)? Now I understand why did MS drop the name. Confuses people.
Actually Windows 2k3 Server did break compatibility in some places, that's why you need to to download separate patches for example.
Here is a text version if you are interested.
