    Then just install some speech recognition software on your computer. It probably already has a microphone on it. No Internet connection required. That isn't what the Echo is for.

    That makes no sense. The entire point of these devices is to get information FROM the Internet. As an added bonus they gather information about you for marketing purposes. What would be the point of having a device that doesn't connect to the Internet? If you want local speech recognition, any laptop can do that.

  7. Google needs to stop the free ride and take responsibility for the garbage they are spewing out. There is no excuse, they have plenty of money. They can hire many more than 10,000 if they need to and review each and every video.

    Just because someone calls something a NN, doesn't make it AI. A NN doesn't work like a real neural network like a brain. It is just a marketing term.

    You forgot the part where it is just a waste of time and money, and just an ego trip. We aren't going to be able to live on Mars, ever. Sure, it will be cool, but it is as wasteful as building an America's Cup yacht. If people spent 10% the amount of time thinking about how to improve life on Earth and they do about living on Mars we would be better off.

    According to Space Nutters you can just build factories in space and easily build and swap out components. You just lack vision.

  24. You can still do SIP over XMPP. It still doesn't work, smartphone or no smartphone. Go try it. There are a few SIP/XMPP combos. This isn't a new idea. There is no difference between a smartphone and a computer from 2004.
