  1. No, I mean that "someone else already wrote a library that does fuzzy audio matching and I am using that". You don't think these "researchers" wrote their own audio matching library do you?

  2. Yes. Yes it really is. There are already audio fingerprinting software out there performs fuzzy matches on audio. Ridiculous.
    if (sound_match(ford_150_car_engine_sound, engine_sound_clip))
    printf("ITS A FORD F150!");

  3. This isn't shocking. If you can match an acoustic signature you can figure it out. There have been tons of these "research" projects coming out of Universities lately. I guess this is what passes for research nowadays. I can write a program that can identify any car that drives by with good accuracy just by recording the sound the engine makes and matching it against known engine sounds. Ridiculous.

    100% correct. Of course we do that already by judging people based on their lineage and background.

    That is a myth. The best indicator of anyones (financial) success is the relative wealth of their parents.

    Um, what were neural networks paired with before? Non vast-data storage?

    I think it is because the timing is suspicious. Why is this an issue NOW when private for hire drivers have been doing this in London for 200 years? Could it be because Uber is there now?

  19. There is only one definition of Moores Law: the number of transistors per square inch on integrated circuits will double every year. That hasn't happened for many years now. Cue the rage! It doesn't change the facts.

  20. Re: Moores Law on HP Plans To Cut Up To 4,000 Jobs Over Next 3 Years Amid PC Slump (bloomberg.com) · · Score: -1, Troll

    Exactly. I knew as soon as I pointed out that Moores Law is dead that people here would get angry. People are spoiled and assume that technological progress will always continue. That is because they don't realize how much work went into fulfilling Moores Law. A lot of people worked very hard to get us where we are now. But your computer today is going to perform a lot like the one you will be using 10 years from now. That is reality.

  21. Wrong. I knew someone would say that. Moores Law is already dead. You don't even know what Moores Law is apparently. It has nothing to do with building a PC 2x as fast for 1/2 the cost.

  22. Moores Law on HP Plans To Cut Up To 4,000 Jobs Over Next 3 Years Amid PC Slump (bloomberg.com) · · Score: 1, Troll

    This is the consequence of the death of Moores Law. A lot of people won't be happy to hear this, but Moores Law is dead and won't be coming back. Digital computers are reaching an endpoint and there are no more leaps to be made technologically here. Essentially digitial computing is hitting a dead end. The computer you have today will look a lot like the one you will have 10 years from know. I know people will go on about 3D microchips, atomic transistors, exotic materials, but that isn't going to bring back Moores Law. We have been spoiled for decades, but the party is over.
